I wrap my (very few) vulnerable shrubs with black plastic deer netting for winter. I hold it on with clothespins. Effective and easy.

If that works, this is the tip of the year! Much more attractive than fabric. I would think the deer would nibble right through the holes but i will certainly try it. Thanks.

I grow some euonymus so deer don't feed on other stuff. Not sure it's the best plan.

I tried the black plastic netting year before last. The deer tore it down. The clips, etc. were not strong enough to keep out determined deer.

That's what i would have expected. I'll use zip ties and landscape staples to secure to the ground.

I'd be interested to know the order in which your plants were eaten.

I hate those smelly sprays. Over the years, living in deer central, I have just abandoned certain plants (Euonymus japonica, Yew, and azaleas among others). My yard is still very lush, and the deer go over to my neighbors for their all you can eat, deer friendly salad bar. LOL.

lacyvail, would you please tell me what kind of deer netting you use? I started to use some leftover heavy plastic netting with holes the size of chain link, but then thought it was unnecessarily heavy and that a deer would just eat right between the holes. Thanks for sharing what works for you.

Just out of curiosity I wondered how yew can be poisonous to horses, cattle, sheep and goats and not deer? Checking it out it seems it is mildly toxic to white tailed deer, but not very. Weird. Our native deer species don't touch it afaik.
