A rooting question

I got a Hoya wayetii and broke off a piece of a vine while inspecting for critters. I thought I would go ahead and try to root it. I stuck it in a little pot of fast draining soil. My question is how moist to keep the soil. I stick epi cuttings in dry soil, and keep philo cuttings moist sometimes in a bag to create a greenhouse effect. What's recommended?
