Those buds looks so good. You guys so lucky having buds to look forward to.

I love to see buds in the early stages. It's always a mystery what they might look like when they open. Sometimes, the outside gives no clue whatsoever to what they will look like!

I'm insanely jealous---I've been trying to get blooms on subcalva for years...it sits and sulks in the house all winter, then I put it outside on the deck and it takes off, putting out peduncles right and left; just as they start to bud up it's time to bring the plant inside again and every teeny bud blasts....sigh...this went on for years and I finally gave up and got rid of the plant....anyhow, enjoy yours and please post when the blooms finally open...at least I can look at other people's flowers, just wish I could enjoy the fragrance too :-)

Shelley, ive only had this cutting for under a year. Ive found its super sensitive. Its tried around 5 times to bloom off the pedunles only to blast. What i discovered was its trip from my west facing window to the kitchen to be watered was what it didnt like. When i kept it put and watered it with a watering can, the blooms finally are blooming out. It really hates being moved at all.

That's interesting.....so you keep yours in the house all year round? No summers outside? What about lack of humidity in the house? I would really, really like to bloom this plant and might try again....Logee's has it for sale....

Yes. I grow in a west facing window year round here in florida. I water once a week and mist daily. They all seem to be growing just fine. Because there are so many bugs/pests and no winter to kill them off, i dont chance it with my plants as well as some of my orchids that are insanely expensive. If any of them got infested, id die. Lol

I think the key phrase might be "here in Florida"....still, your photo has inspired me to maybe try again, here in Pittsburgh :-).... Has anyone here flowered this plant in the northeast? Without a greenhouse?

Thanks for the info and for posting the pics...l'm looking forward to seeing your flowers when they open....

Did those buds ever open? If so, we need photos....

Also, since no one has responded to my question about flowering H. subcalva in the northeast without a greenhouse I'm going to assume that no one has....that being the case, I'm going to leave that plant safely at Logee's, tucked into their nice warm greenhouse, where it has at least a chance of a long and happy life...sigh....

The buds have swelled even more. They should open any day now. Im terribly impatient. Lol

The front umbel is trying to catch up to the back. Im shocked this small plant is putting out 2 at once. I hope the scent is substantial. My lacunosa is blooming as well. All in my bedroom window mind you :)))

Oooooh, so exciting....keep us posted please, and don't forget to get a good sniff right away to let us know about the grape juice angle :-)

Shelley, its started this evening. Already i detect a grape gum or almost sweet tart candy sorta scent.

Oh gosh they're so beautiful! I love everything about them--size, color, shape, and fragrance...if I could grow this plant I think it would be my favorite hoya...I know Ted Green said it was his favorite...thanks so much for posting the photo!

So beautiful! I got a subcalva cutting this summer, and can't wait for it to bloom! Will be years, I expect...

Lucky you Richard. Really lovely. I tried to grow it in Southern California but I think it needs the extra humidity and warmth of Florida. By the way, where did you get your macrame pot holders? I like that they don't have the dangling tail at the bottom. I do have one of those old mid century modern tension poles. Haven't used it yet.

Im really liking the difference in fragrance from my lacunosa and carnosa varieties. Cant wait to collect ones with different scents. Its odd. This is a rather small plant still and it has bloomed. Yes i live in florida but i grow in a west facing bedroom window. Not really humid indoors. Air conditioning on and a constant temp of 74. I mist daily however. The macrame i made myself. Ebay and etsy sell vintage macrame books. And that mid century tension pole is genius. It can be moved anywhere in the house in seconds.

You are a real talent Richard. I looked at a bunch of macrame pot holders and none were as good as yours. I will have to return to the 50's and make my own.

I finally snapped under the pressure and ordered a subcalva from Logee's....but this is my LAST attempt to flower it, I mean it...

partycat--it was the '60's for macramé--I know, I was there....I sucked at it and ended up throwing the macramé board and the twine across the room...it takes a certain talent and mind frame to be successful at it....I admire people who can do it well :-)

Absolutely gorgeous! Also, thanks very much for the detailed description of the scent...I'm really into fragrance and your description is much appreciated....

So pretty! This one is officially next on my list. :)

ummmmm..... round 2. Not even 2 weeks since the flowers dropped, its starting again. Is this normal?

    Yes :)

Yeah... this is so going to be my next Hoya. :)

    Stop torturing me!!!

Amazing Richard! I'm pretty jealous, the blooms are beautiful, just stunning. I thought I bought this one from Logee's and they sent me the wrong one and they don't have it anymore. I also lost an auction of subcalva from SRQ on ebay by 50 cents because I forgot the auction was almost over.

Can anyone tell me where I can acquire this plant? It just seems so hard to get my hands on this one. I will trade (I only have about 10 different hoyas) or pay for cuttings. Thanks everyone!
