Dieseler,how about selling me a stick of your Black Madeira, cause i know you know your tree's. I got some tree's bought that i did 't order. I am like you,thinning-out most of them but i still have some i don't care for for instance 3 Negronne in 25 gls container and one in the ground.

I do not do that anymore but i make exception 1 time only . I can spare you 1 good

stick from so far healthy Madeira i airlayed from its ucdavis parent when it is fully dormant.

History of parent -8 years old is badly infected with FMV but near ground soil last season i let a double branch sucker grow near soil level just big enough to airlayer it as it looked fmv free.

This season it grew to 3 ft both branches in 30g pot and have not seen any fmv signs what so ever but that is no guarantee its fmv free time will tell as each season passes if it continues as such.

All others please do not ask and i'm not trying to be mean or anything but now a days just want to take it easy and not have the hassle.

This fig forum need a little TLC. I have send tree's, plants,seeds, sionwood for a long time for free or postage. Sorry to say i do have bad experiences in the past so i am reluctant somewhat, Martin has been an outstanding contributor through the years,very knowledgeable in fig growing to say the least .

I wish this forum has more members like him, Bob.

Is VdS same as Bourjasotte Noir? Also does it produce any brebas?

Joe i have read they are not the same i never grew it so cannot say one way or another .

It did sprout out a few breba figs here mentioned which i knocked off.

Thanks rayrose. Interesting how similar the figs look. A leaf comparison could be telling.

Would love to get a VdS cutting and take close look at this fig myself.

In our climate it would be a waste of tree energy to try and let breba ripen if they do not fall off first due to our weather.

Here in spring plants are put on driveway to awaken them weather permitting and put in at night, each year can be different as to when they leaf out and main crop appears as weather cannot be controlled.

Can attest Ucdavis cultivar Black Madeira did produce breba crop but here in our climate a waste of tree energy as main crop does take over 110 days to ripen.

Reason why someone starting out should get cultivars that are good for their climate otherwise it may be disappointing.

Hardy Chicago is a great all around one to start off with and taste on many palates is really good.
