Hi Arthur, thanks so much for the species name! I actually live in Sydney, but I hear that this species requires almost extreme moisture? It's just on spring so fingers crossed that new roots will grow soon... It seems customary to keep them rather dry during the winter, so that explains the pseudobulbs slightly. I'll repot it into a hanging basket and keep it moist. Hopefully all goes well!

Not so sure about how to deal with this orchid-I've only watched some videos on it-but I think the pseudo bulbs have plenty of energy stored to push some new roots. Keep the roots moist, and the moisture around the base of the orchid will help to spur root growth. Make sure there is some good air circulation to stop mold from growing.

The disgusting root system is the result of abnormal winter rainfall. This is an orchid that takes ages to get to flowering size from small divisions.

You have to find a spot to hang the plant so that it gets more sun in winter and is protected from hot afternoon sun in summer.

At the spring orchid shows large specimen plants are seen covered in flowers, the plants are grown by potting on rather than repotting, not sure how you do that without major disturbance to the root system. Sorry, I've never tried to grow this orchid.

Yes, the orchid would hate the move but ultimately I hope it will be for the better (it was in a plastic pot with only orchid bark and no moss so water retention would have been an issue and so would ventilation) I've read the links, (thanks Arthur!) and it seems pretty congruent with goldstar's advice also. Old p- bulbs are not producing any roots. But they can initiate new growth and that new growth will produce roots eventually. I see like 3 new growths on your plant, and this is ok. Old roots will dry, just do not let them rot.
