Over the past few years I have done a lot of experimenting with different beddings/ food/ feeding rates etc. Well about 2 wks ago I finally went to a local horse stable to get some manure. They were more than happy to let me have some. Took home about 30 lbs. of dry/aged nuggets from the top and about 50 lbs. of fresh (still warm). Had to really rinse and soak the dry stuff to re-wet and break up the chunks (saving the fresh stuff for hot composting). Added some to one side of the worm bins and within 48hrs. they were all over the stuff. Don't think I've seen that kind of enthusiasm since I added fresh pumpkin or watermelon! They just love it and it makes for such a nice moist and fluffy bedding at the same time. I'm sure they are bigger and more lively too. HM is going to be a regular addition for my worms from now on.
