DA Roses from the past week

My Austins have been doing surprisingly well given the recent wave we're having. Here are a few to share.

William Shakespeare 2000

I've had this rose for a couple of years and moved him this past spring. He's doing ok but I wish he'd grow upwards instead of sideways. He was reaching out to strangle poor Strawberry Hill so one of his arms got chopped this week. Lovely fragrance but even in partial afternoon shade, the petal edges darken and I'm wondering if that's thrip damage or sunburn? Does anyone know?

Prospero - He's still only a foot tall but having a great fall flush with lots of buds. Nice fragrance too. He's actually more purple than this photo shows.

Princess Alexandra of Kent - This rose is standing up to heat really well for me. After two 95+ degree days, she still looks great. I believe it's that third year magic that happens when they settle in.

Charles Rennie Macintosh - He's been very reliably lilac-colored recently, not tending towards to pink. Can't wait to see bigger blooms next year. He's about two and half feet tall after 8 months. Earlier this year, I saw a CRM that reached the top of a house. Hopefully mine will grow but not that successfully.

Gertrude Jekyll - The morning sun is arriving later every week so GJ is sitting here in the dark awaiting for her daily dose of sunshine.

Tamora - My rose standards are really showing a lot more fullness. Compared to Mary Rose and Charlotte, Tamora has shown the least vigor but she finally produced a full-sized bloom!

Nicole Carol Miller - Not an Austin but still a lovely rose that produces many color variations, is reliably fragrant, and always in bloom.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the fall season!

Ann
