Carolina Cross is supposedly a stabilized cross between Weeks NC Giant (AKA North Carolina Giant: which has large, dark brown seeds) and Cobb Gem (which has your typical dark watermelon seeds). However, Carolina Cross has large, white seeds. Why aren't they dark?

It seems like my sources may have been either inaccurate or incomplete. The white seeds could be a mutation, for all I know. Nevertheless, I do see similarities between Carolina Cross and Weeks NC Giant. A relation to Cobb gem looks plausible (other than the white seeds).

It's also possible that Weeks NC Giant and North Carolina Giant are different varieties after all and that North Carolina Giant has white seeds. I grew Weeks NC giant, this year, however (so I know the seeds are a rather unusual dark brown).

I also grew Carolina Cross #183, this year (so, I saw the seeds; and seeds in pictures on the web are white, too). I grew Mississippi Cobb Gem (a larger variant of Cobb Gem) both this year and last year (so, I saw those seeds, too, and pictures of regular Cobb Gem seeds on the web are dark, too).
