Have you read Consumer Reports articles about various kitchen appliances? Talked to sales people at a large showroom that carries various high-end lines of appliances?

I've never had Jenn Air, but this is my 2nd Thermador cooktop, and I also now have a Thermador double oven. I like Thermador's products, but can't compare them with the Jenn Air.

    Thanks.
I checked consumer report but not helpful.
Spoke with couple of salesperson but again mixed views.
I just want to get one brand appliances.

a salesperson once told us that there's no company out there that's trying to make a bad product which is why consumer reports aren't really helpful. at the end of the day, it depends on what YOU need and want. we picked everything based on our needs and wants: fridge- adjustable inner shelves, easy to adjust door shelves, quiet icemaker, adjustable waterfilling, touchscreen capabilities, well-lit, easy to remove all inner attachments for cleaning etc. etc. what you should do is really sit down with your partner/family and write down what you need and go from there.

we wanted all the same appliances but in the end, we got what we needed instead. ended up with wolf, miele, GE and sub-zero for various appliances.

I had to do the same thing -- mix appliance brands. Samsung fridge, Electrolux induction range and matching microwave (because they are above one another) and Bosch dishwasher. I just chose what I liked about each one, and made sure the stainless matched -- and the handles were the same or similar.

I would also pick appliances individually, not to get a "suite" of them from 1 manufacturer. I know that Bosch is supposed to make great dishwashers .. and yet I have one of their top-load HE washing machines, and I'd NEVER buy one of their washers again. Unfortunately, things aren't built to last the way they used to be! I had my old Thermador cooktop for 21 years, and never had a problem .. and it was fine when I sold my house. Yet the Thermador cooktop where I am now, was only 10 years old when I bought the house, and the previous owner had apparently burned out the downdraft blower motor, which wasn't picked up during the inspection!

In my other house, I'd installed a GE dishwasher, because CR rated them highly the previous few years. But after-the-fact, it turned out my model had a design flaw, and GE had to keep replacing the cam that controlled the cycles & opened the detergent container! I wound up replacing it with a Miele after 8 years of repeated problems. Yet the GE double oven worked fine for 21 years & counting.

We bought our appliances from Whirlpool, which makes Kitchen Aid and Jenn Air. The double drawer Kitchen Aid has a design flaw which causes us to replace a plastic! bezel on each every 6 months. (our kitchen was done less than 2 years ago). The double drawer fridge (Jenn Air) has been repaired 5 times for a faulty control circuit board, which is broken again. The oven has been fine, and my older Kitchen Aid fridge and stovetop are fine. Not very impressed with the quality overall. Next time we will be purchasing other brands.

Agree to selecting best in class for each of the products. Also the manufacturers have great working showrooms. If you ask they may invite you to test cook or a demonstration this is great way to see if the appliances work the way you do. Make a list of the things you want/need and ask the rep to show you the product that matches.

Feeny - your comment... love it... We are getting the same combination of appliances in our kitchen... Wolf range, Monogram fridge and Bosch dishwasher. Cant wait to step into that kitchen!!

    Feeny,

I am in the design phase of my kitchen. I am also selecting my appliances right now.

Have you been happy so far with Monogram fridge and Bosch dishwasher? After all you have used them for almost 2 years. I am also considering Monogram fridge and Bosch dishwasher for my kitchen.

Do you mind sharing the models for the fridge and the dishwasher?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, I am aware of the elimination of heated dry cycles. I am not happy about this elimination of this cycle, but obviously I have no control over govt. regulations.

Anyhow, I was not aware of garbage disposal and filter features of dishwashers. Do you happen to remember which brands have both of these features?

What is the purpose of filter in a dishwasher?

I am leaning towards buying Bosch 800 series dishwasher. It has 44 dB silence rating. Some of 800 series models have water softener feature. I want that feature very attractive as water in my area is very hard.

European dishwashers have eliminated the heat cycle. If you must have the heat dry cycle look intonKitchenaid. Hope this helps.

Which appliances are good in Thermador line?

I bought the 800 Bosch dishwasher, and it does have a "sanitize" and an "extra shine " option. They are both heated dry cycles. They spend more energy, but are worth it. That was why I did not get the 500.

We did all Thermadore and have been very happy. They had a promotion where we basically ended up with a "free" range hood and very cheap dishwasher since we bought the range, double ovens and fridge. Compared to the other high end options we priced it was a great deal.
Lots of high end appliances are made by the same companies. For instance, I believe Bosch makes Thermadore's dishwasher, and Sharp makes all drawer microwaves no matter what brand it is sold under.
I happen to like Thermadore's styling a little more than Jenn Aire, and they had one or two more features that I found appealing.

    Abby,

We are looking into thermador range, and double wall oven. How is it so far. We are looking for a counter depth range but thermador does not carry. Any recommendations for a good counter-depth refrigerator
