Are you concerned about the way it looks, or the functionality?

point out to your designer that it conserns you - simply looking on the photo you can see very clearly that it would block out the sunshine that's is clearly shown on the worktop there - that would be a shame in my opinion !

I think the refrigerator by the window would block light from that window, making the work area darker as well as obstructing the view out that window form the work area.

I agree with feeny, the fridge and pantry would look too heavy against the window. Do not try to change a layout that is currently working well for the sake of change.

Thanks for the comments! We just purchased the house, and are thinking about adding a peninsula. We have three options: current layout (no peninsula), peninsula without pantry, and peninsula with pantry. Removing the pantry helps for the window, and we could go for counter-depth fridge. The only constraint is that the peninsula has to be on the opposite wall since the window is too low, which is why we want to move the fridge.

There's no reason that I can see for the peninsular to have to be only on that side ?!? Why not have it coming off the window wall, by the window so you can sit on a stool in the sunshine !!

You could even have some lower cabinets under the window and use the breakfast bar instead of the table and chairs - to give you more kitchen storage if you need it !

I think it is a bad sign that you are paying a kitchen designer but still worried enough about the options presented to you that you are on Houzz. Please don't do anything til you have lived in the house for a bit longer & are sure of what you do! Congrats on your new home & it looks like a very workable kitchen as it now stands! ;)

I agree with Patti. The biggest mistake people make when doing a remodel , is to remodel a home before they live in it. You really need to see how the space works for you before deciding to spend a fortune on cabinets. I am dealing with the same issue. I have a home at the Jersey shore that was flooded by hurricane Sandy. I have a galley kitchen that is very small with the fridge up against the wall. I decided I had to move the fridge to a new location because it wasn't accessible for people coming into the kitchen. I moved it to the outside where it now helps the traffic to flow better. That's what you really need to do. You need to see how the traffic flows in your kitchen before changing the location of anything because once its done it'll be something that you'll have to live with. Think about buyers remorse when making such a huge decision. You don't want to regret it afterwards.
