It looks like your post is spreading also - this may be an endemic problem.

It is helpful to know your climate zone, which you can add to your profile so that people know what growing conditions you have, or you can give a general geographic region and say whether you are growing indoors or outdoors. The photos look like they were taken on an outdoor deck - is that the case?

In some cases, as the seasons change, outdoor decks may start to get more direct light, and this could be part of the problem. That is my first guess, but then I do not know where you have the plants and how much light exposure they are getting or have been getting. It is also possible that the plants recently bloomed and are now going through the natural process of dying after blooming. If that is the case, they should be making new offshoots. Personally, I do not remove old plants from their pups until they are completely dry and pull out easily, but if you have no pups, then you may just have to wait and see.

What Lars said. Also, we need to know some other cultural conditions especially watering, how long have you had them, etc.

More often the case; greenhouse-grown for retail then thrust into the harsh reality of normal temperatures.

I've had good luck with greenhouse-grown for retail bromeliads like this, and I always put them right in my pergola outdoors, but then my outdoor temperatures are very close to indoor temperatures. For this type of bromeliad, I use the mist setting on my nozzle to water them. I don't like to get them too wet, and they don't mind having wet leaves, especially in warmer weather, like we are having now. I also have a covered area next to the house where I store ones that are not in bloom.
