I'm trying to dry out the media but I'll put it under lights and add the heating mat.

What type of heat do you use? One of the mats I purchased from greenhouse mega store ( I guess is defective) because it hardly gets warm. I'll need to look into buying some new ones.

You can set it on top of micro-fiber cloths to wick out the moisture. Thats what i do. Also, the heating mats only get about 10 degrees higher than room temp.

I would have waited til next year to change out the media.

I've heard from several people that once an EA plant is removed from its original potting mix (or a big portion of the mix is replaced) even though that original mix is horrible, it dies....The only time I've had long term luck with those big EA plants is when I removed the bottom saucer, hung the plant up, and didn't water it again for like two weeks....once the original mix is reasonably dry, water carefully from then on...hopefully you'll do better with this plant....the drying mat is a good idea... and I love curtisii :-)

Yean, those EA plants in the 8inch baskets can go a full month without watering during the winter time. I lost a lot of plants before i learned that!

In Georgia, HD & Lowes i always find EA Hoyas. I always wait couple weeks to go on clearance rack. Always find it anywhere from $1-3 for 8" pot. I bring it home and never water it until it is completely dry. I do not remove soil at all since those roots are still young and weak so removing the soil kills them. I haven't have any problem at all doing that way.

I live in indiana,all the Lowe's here only sell Hindu rope and Rubra and they are always full of mealies. If you ever trim can I buy cuttings from you?I lost some of my cuttings when I was sick with pneumonia. Now I'm kinda starting over.
