No, Broward County, just on the edge of the cone so if it stays this course we should just get high winds and heavy rain. The coastal areas will be bad though. Prayers for them!

OMG that looks frightening! I haven't seen this on the news! May need to get out of dodge. BTW is this a new feature on Houzz where you get a Notification indicator when someone comments in a thread you also made a comment in? It's almost like Facebook notifications. I like it.

Remember, that can and will change, but GFS has had it looping like that all day. Timing is key now. Sadly, this thing is moving slow, and that will cause more deaths.

Please keep watching news, and I will update GFS link at least once a day. It's hard to figure out that site.

Notifications have worked for me for awhile. I remember checking or not unchecking something, I think.

Here's another really neat tool. I already set it to 850hPa which is best to see the hurricane, but if you click "Earth" in the bottom left, you can fast forward the hurricane for up to four full days using the GFS models.

That is a neat tool. It's cool to zoom out and around to see the weather events going on round the world. I just watched the 11pm update on the news and no mention of it circling back. I believe they get info from the NHC. What gives?

Although they are the same, their model goes out to 16 days (384 hours) and the one they report on the news is usually only 5 days.

The models even to 16 days are more right than wrong on general direction. I fully expect that 5 day curve you are seeing to happen. It is possible that the storm once out to sea will start the turn and then just sit there until both of these storms get flushed out to the north.

This is the run from when Matthew was still down by South America. They got it pretty spot-on up to now. (hour 138) - and all that after a 90 degree turn!

Our Sisters family and friends live in the Nassau and it looks as though the Hurricane is right over them? She will be checking in after things settle?, to see how they are. Must be a horrible feeling being elsewhere w family there. Hope they are fine, but this is something their family has dealt w for their whole lives living and growing up there.

Yes, the eye went just west of Nassau - they got the worst side of the storm.

Latest GFS is nothing special. The storm still appears to loop back over Florida, but the storm is showing to dissipate by that time. Maybe some rain. This first hit is going to be the bad one.

Nothing going in my coastal area. For the past week we've had blue skies, late day cloudiness with distant rumblings but no rain. Thunderous rain in central mountain region with visible sprites.

Storm turned north away from the coast last night and spared us the worst. I was fine in Orlando, just a bit of wind and downed tree limbs, etc. Still had power the whole time. Volusia County/Daytona Beach area got the worst, but it was still way better than originally predicted. The winds were less than expected and the core stayed offshore instead of making landfall. Glad it worked out better for everyone!

Phew, that's a relief! Glad you're ok, fingers crossed for anyone else in line for it.

My plants were on the coast but I was in Orlando. We were quite lucky as there was minimal damage here in Indialantic (Melbourne / beachside)...... ;-)

The slight move just east of projected location was what saved the continental US from so much more destruction.

That small move (~20miles) was a huge blessing.

We have not heard too much yet from our sisters relatives in Nassau which took a direct hit. Then it was heading toward Freeport Island afterward where other family is. Not sure if it did or not. Hoping they are fine.

Oh Rick, I am sorry to hear that. Hopefully it's just communication problems.

I think that is the case jedoba. We where watching a news clip quite a few days ago of Nassau and it took the roof right off a house across from where the footage was shot.

I'm sure your family is fine. It usually takes about 7 - 10 days following such an event to restore power & communication lines and water service.

Although it did hit Bahamas as a Cat 4, it is my understanding that zero casualties were reported there as of Friday. Haiti was not so lucky.

I truly hope you hear from your family soon and that all is well.
