I thought my amaryllis were doing fine. They spend their summers planted directly in the soil in my vegetable garden. They soak up all the sun they can all summer long. I do what I can to limit water. A couple weeks ago I noticed this disaster. I have dealt with Red Blotch before. Do you think that's what's going on here? The saddest part of this is that this in one of 6 that I've grown from seed. I was thinking that they are big enough that I might actually get blossoms from them next winter/spring...but if they're starting to look like this, I don't know.

I believe that is red blotch. Excessive moisture and humidity seem to encourage it. I let mine be b/c not as severe as yours appears to be and it hasn't killed my bulbs. Read about it here

Do you cut back and/or dig up your bulbs in the fall?

Yes, I dig the bulbs. I have already dug about 60-70% of my flock at this point. I have them drying in my shed. Will probably dig the rest this weekend. Once they are all out of the ground, and the tops dried up, I'll trim them and store the bulbs in the cool(ish), dark basement. Each bulb will be put in a paper bag of it's own - left open at the top to allow air circulation.

Any other tips?
