The shutters are all wrong sized and if possible I would remove them instead of bringing attention to them as for the door a nice dark red or blue would be nice and some big black planters at the sides of the step right where the sidewalk steps in

Thank you both for responding. Though beautiful in the picture I'm not a fan of that shade of blue however a darker shade may work.

If the shutters have to stay, then I'd paint them one of the lighter tones in the brick so there is no contrast. Then, paint the front door a strong, favorite color and add a large ceramic pot of flowers or plants to greet guests. Good luck!

I concur, you need to remove the shutters. You need to add an entry and trim to the windows. A light cream white would be best for the trim. Then paint the door the pop of color.

Totally agree the shutters need to be gone, BUT I understand the HOA restrictions. I like the Bayard Blue for the door.

Chloebud, I don't know - but a proper one (not one pieced together from what is available on Houzz shop) would make a world of difference. I have found that HOA's will rethink just about anything if it IMPROVES the neighborhood and they can see what you are talking about via renditions. Yes there are some that just say no to everything, but in this case - I think some sort of porch would help.

I took the suggestion to blend the shutter color with bricks. I have decided on a Clark & Kensington color called baby elephant. The color is very close to the mortar color and matches some siding on a nearby townhome. Having said rhat, it coordinates with the other homes which is okay with HOA. No pediments allowed. I painted the color on a poster board to give you an idea of what it will look like.

Baby elephant is a warm gray. Since there's yellow in the bricks and the gray, I was thinking a yellowish beige door might be the way to go.

I would go black.

I liked the idea of black but tried to avoid the contrasting color. The baby elephant blends therefore less attention is given to the shutters which I have to keep per HOA guidelines.

How will you know your door from anyone else's? Definitely need some contrast. Navy blue might work better than black but black is better than beige.

I agree they'd don't look the greatest but IMO they aren't that bad. I would go black before I would paint them a color that blends with brick...I always cringe when I see shutters painted that way.

If HOA allows, you might consider a landscape change that will balance the area on either side of the door. Trim the level of the bushes below the larger window so the entire window is visible. Add taller foliage below the smaller window and add a large pot with a topiary and smaller plants for color at the lower part of the topiary. The door will be more balanced and the small seasons color in with the potted topiary will look welcoming.
