Sorry I can't help with your specific question, but I appreciate the heads up on this plant. With tender perennials like this, I usually bring the plant in a pot if I want to overwinter it. It just seems to do better since it already has established roots and I don't have to fuss with getting cuttings rooted which seems to be hit or miss for me.

NHBabs, that's a great idea. It calls itself an annual, but I read the card and it is hardy to 28degrees. I think it will be happy in a pot in my barely-stays-above-freezing garage. I keep some other perennials there in the winter and they do fine. I also read that it blooms until November, so I am encouraged.

I grow the scarlet pimpernel here in MA. It has reseeded VERY lightly but I collect seeds for sowing the following year...

I am harvesting seeds from the trimmings I saved when I dug up the plant. Are the brown balls the seeds or just a covering? I tried to poke into one but not quite sure. Do they have to be super super brown? Some - a lot - have some green tinge. Will they turn brown in time or do they have to be on the plant?

Here is a photo of the seeds I purchased, with a ruler to show the size. I think the brown balls are just a covering.
