Help kitchen layout

The first two pictures is one choice the second two is another - this kitchen is 17' wide by 19'6" long . There is a den behind the kitchen - I have a bunch of children and I do a lot of cooking... In option 2 the kitchen layout is nicer but at the same time it bothers me that dinette is sticking out into walkway don't feel like it's comfortable for kids to sit around table... Pull up high chair... . There is 9 ft bet the dinette wall and island, and island is 3 feet wide . In option 1 the organization of kitchen is not as nice but dinette is not in walkway I'm also giving up two pantries

for the 2nd plan, I would consider a window seat all across the window and then the high chair can sit at either end of the table, and as your little ones grow there will be lots of room for them along the seat and chairs along a large rectangular table. Also consider stools under an extended island counter top for extra seating. My soon teenager grandkids love sitting at the counter and the rest of the family at the table.

In the 1st plan, I would go with an L shaped window seat and have the table nestled into it. with maybe a pantry or desk cabinet next to the doorway to create a pocket for the end of the window seat.

In a situation like this, with a large family and a lot of cooking going on form has to follow function. I saw one picture where there were two sinks on the same wall. Not sure what the need for the second sink is unless this is a Kosher Kitchen? Another picture showed a prep sink opposite the main sink. I would separate them as much as possible putting the prep sink near the refrigerator with a landing area on both sides of it.

Here are the concepts, philosophies or principles I would apply putting function first:

I would design this kitchen the same way I would design a personal kitchen for a celebrity chef looking to do their personal kitchen. A space where food has to be prepared fast, well and often.

First the appliance package. I would look to consult a professional chef that works with home owners putting together appliance packages. They are often paid by the appliance companies or the appliance retailer to help you. For instance, you can seek out a local PIRCH center or a Wolf Sub-Zero factory showroom that keep chefs on staff. The Merchandise Mart in Chicago has a number of Appliance Manufacturer showrooms for this purpose.

Regarding the plumbing fixtures I would seek to incorporate sink(s) and faucets that can get the job done fast and last a long time. To this end you may even want to consider two dishwashers.

With respect to a cabinetry it all about easy in easy out. Were talking drawers and open shelves. Too much cabinetry can kill functionality. This is where professional chefs can help too.

Overarching all of these things is "Organization". This is the room where all the family organization takes place. Have a space for the family calendar and other organizational tools you plan to use to keep everything and everyone functioning.

Hope this helps. You have given me an idea for my next blog article. :)
