A carnosa

aurorawa, not even a chance it's a pubicalyx?

There's always that chance. There is a chance it is a carnosa/pubicalyx cross, too. The OP's photo is not the best, but most of my pubicalyx have narrower, longer leaves, so I am most comfortable with the carnosa ID, until there is a clearer pic.

Definitely carnosa. I spent my morning whacking up my mother's old carnosa to restart it after discovering she was growing it in a pot with no drainage holes! It had at least a quart of water floating on top. Does this not prove that carnosa is nearly indestructible? Yikes! It's been in that pot for years...I filled a 14" pot with cuttings, took a sack full of cuttings home, and threw away about as much as I put in her new pot. Oh, and you wouldn't believe the soil she had it in. "Oh, that's some topsoil I used in the garden," she says. Double yikes!
