New curtains and rod , new chandelier and a lower centerpiece for the table M ove the painting to another wall

I would change the window panels to a creamy beige color instead of the darker color, which makes the room smaller.

I agree with everything Eileen said and I also might change at least the top (yellowish) paint color. I think a drum fixture like Seligman (really like that one) or like the one in the Glamour dining room would be great. Your table and chairs are great and the room is pretty too!

Love the symmetry of the space and the great ceiling.

I would begin by determining a new color scheme or just an addition of color pop (red, eggplant, burnt orange, etc) to the existing palate.

Re- upholster the chairs in a colorful print or pattern and coordinate to new window treatments. The existing wts are too heavy and too short for the space. I would do something lighter and more whimsical and take the fabric up closer to the ceiling line (at least another 12") and then also closer to the walls to make the overall treatment wider. Also take the panels to the floor. These look like you skimped on fabric! More fabric at the window will make the windows - and the room- look much larger and grander. Do you have a view. It would be great to allow natural light to come into the space.

Then an area rug - as large as you can afford, a buffet table with art or mirror and sconces on the left side, and a lower floral arrangement that can remain on the table when using it. Tall arrangements do not encourage conversation and are uninviting:)

There's no contrast at all in the room, so the first thing would be a new color palette where contrast exists. The matching of the ceiling to the lower walls doesn't work well and looks very drab. You need a better contrast, so skew the colors more widely -- say antique or bright white for the ceiling, darker reds or something more dramatic for the chair-rails on down. Change the drapes and rods and go with a lighter window treatment that helps the room present better. The painting should go, and the chandler needs updating to something either more stylish or classic.

Finally, you could keep the table but change the top, or at least cover it with a table-cover that hides the smoked glass. Judy's ideas on the chair coverings is excellent, and puts an end to the dated chair designs.

I would recommend changing out the window treatments to something with a bold pattern and color. Take one of the colors in the fabric and bring it into the wall color. Your ceiling is gorgeous and I would accent that with a light hue of the wall color in the inside squares. A beautiful drum chandelier would look pretty. The picture is too large for that space and should be moved to a larger wall and balanced out with two smaller pictures or mirrors if the wall length is long. I hope this was helpful.

The dark color of the ceiling seems to make the room look smaller,,like it closes down on you. Like others mentioned, there is no contrast. Have some curtains that are hung all the way from the ceiling. I would go with something light in color to make the room a bit more airy.

If you wanna update pick new drapes try to find a color paint that goes with your drapes this is the cheap solution the other one get a round area rug pick your color palate from it

Change the curtains and the curtain rods first you will have a huge difference , double think about the red on the wall

I'd paint the uper And lower wall the same color, using a light color. I"d put a more modern lamp (see pictures) I"d put new curtains, that would go right up to the ceiling and go to the exterior of the windows (it make them look larger). The chairs are a definite challenge. The look took 1980's like that, and would look massive with a cover that would go down to the floor. Pretty sure ikea would have something nice and design that would make you more satisfied with the overall results

When your table is not in use, please only put 4 chairs around it and put the other 2 to the side. The six are crowding it, and a more generous effect is created by the space you leave rather than the space you fill.
Without knowing anything about your tastes, it is hard to advise you on colour scheme. All the best for the project

Get your drapes up, up, up...almost to the ceiling. Fool the eye into thinking that your windows are taller and grander. If new drapes are not in your current budget, color-block these by adding a contrast fabric to either the bottom or top.

On your new window treatments, extend the rod on the outer edges of the window--have the inside of the curtains just covering the frame--it will make your small windows seem larger. Agree that the painting is too large for that wall and LOVE your ceiling.

I'd go for light grey or beige with bolder fabric for the curtains. Ideas for fabrics and chair (less than 100$), to go along with a modern lighting
