Those are beautiful Golden Hahnii's, and beautifully grown. 4 bucks, certainly can't beat the price!!

I've been keeping my plants on the fire escape and on the roof of my building. Now that winter is coming, I'm going to be in trouble. I have no room for lights, and can only fit so many on my windowsills. So, even though they were beautiful, and cheap, I had to walk away empty handed.

Nice! I might be taking a trip into NYC on Sunday but not looking for Sans right now as I (like you and many of us) have no more inside space!! Nice plants. A year or two ago they showed up regularly at the bbb around here. For as finicky as they are for a lot of folks some commercial grower has the conditions (probably warmth and moisture) to mass produce them for a profit (in peaty soils no less!)!

They can almost always be found at Lowe's here for $3.88, and it's the easier growing one with a wide green edge. I think those shown here are the same clone.

Good luck to both of you with your plants this winter. I try to bring one of everything in the house but I don't have enough room with light either. If I was 100 more miles south I wouldn't have the few overnight +/-28s every winter, damage would be far less and almost no losses.

Back back in February I bought several Hahnii from GlassHouseWorks. They arrived on the coldest day of the year. Two were Golden Hahnii. One died a few days later. The other one lingered for months with a pup. I think I have them too much sunlight one day, and it also quickly fell apart. They were almost toatally yellow, with very little green.

I have some Hahnis out of 'silver frost' which look like a greener golden Hahni if you want to try one Miguel.

Woodnative, thanks, but I really didn't mourn it. I'm scrambling for space, and that was one less pot to worry about

Chris, regarding the 'greener Golden Hahnii' you mention above, it may be a sans that Chahinian pictures and describes as Golden Green Hahnii in his book 'The Sansevieria Trifasciata Varieties'.

Those shown in his pic are very different from Golden Hahnii which he compares next to them. These have a wash of lime-green over the entire plant and so making the normal gray center a dark yellowish green with banding and changing the usual wide creamy yellow area between the edges and center to a heavily green-tinted yellow. Very distinctive. Does this sound like your Hahnii??

Chris, I forgot to ask if these greener Hahnii's have produced offsets of the same, or are they like Streaker which is unstable?

Chahinian says his Golden Green Hahnii originates from the unstable variety Hahnii Variegated, and that they are stable with their offsets. I have no doubt that this same variety could originate from Streaker, just as Golden Hahnii originates from various other cultivars.

can't recall where but I remember reading Gold Hahnii produced a greener type called 'Lucille Polen'. Interesting about Golden Green coming from 'silver frost'. My Silver Frost is also now looking more like Gold Hahnii, but only the very center growth.

I purchased Chahinian's book and got to reread it. I have the other book he did on my computer. I prefer the book in hand myself.

Stush, which book of Chahinian's did you buy? I'm assuming his Trifasciata Varieties. I didn't know one of his books is available to read online.

I bought his Trifasciata Varieties and his book on sans species years ago when they first came out, I refer to them very often.

I've never seen Lucille Polan, but my old issue 5 of the Journal of the ISS has an article by Chahinian on this Hahnii type. He says it is greener than Golden Hahnii but the leaf is thicker as well because of extra layers of the green tissue. He says it can easily be confused with Hahnii Favorite, I haven't seen this sans either.

Sorry Russ late getting back to this thread. Well 'silver frost' is variable abd this one group is more like green Hahni. Though not 100 percent stable they are going that way and with a little effort could be easily selected out.

Compared to 'streaker' and another very small more typical pot of 'silver frost'

Chris, your greener Hahnii's compare exactly to the pic of Golden Green Hahnii in Chahinian's book. It's great that they are 'going that way' regarding offsets staying with the green theme. Very unusual!!

sorry but I am a hoarder too. It pains me to part with a Gold Hahnii or streaker. And looking at Chris's Silver Frost, Can't say I would want to part with them either. It's almost like my children, who can part with one?

So apparently you bought Chahinian's book on species. It's much newer and a great reference guide. I wish he would update both of them, I would buy the new ones immediately.

A more silver 'silver frost'!

woodnative it looks like that 'silver frost' has a leaf disease (lower right below the hole and on the leaf of the second plant on the left too.
