I had a set like this sprouting at the end of August. One grew a lot faster than the other, and now - in the tents with all the others - I can't find the set anymore... will have a closer look this weekend.

I'm really curious. The others of the same age have at least the first set of real leaves. This one hasn't even started to form a 'top'.

I'm only guessing at this point.

Please share pictures and technique for your DIY twins. How do you select the correct two so one is not growing significantly faster than the other?

So twins are seedlings with two apexes from the start? I had a few of those in a set of 10 DR seeds (9 germinated). Or is it possible some of mine just grew 2 main branches from the start? Like Conny said, on some of them, one apex grew much faster than the other.

Jwe, have you any pix? It will be interesting to see them! Could be you got the two branches to grow at once, but the above examples look like there's two distinct caudexes doesn't it?

What technically defines twins I'm not certain. Is anyone?

Do they need a separate root system I wonder?

I think we here will continue to call all of the above twins, whatever the definition! They're cute :-)

Steffen did an experiment a while ago but hasn't been here for some time, he bound two seedlings together, wonder how they have fared?

edit, just realised Maria Elena has found the old thread of Steffens and is trying to resurrect it :-)

These three seedlings all have 2 branches right off the caudex.

I tried to fuse 5 seedlings together, but they are about to get pitched. Only one seems to have survived the operation and I'm guess it won't be long for this world while it is with 4 deceased seedlings.

Sharing this one just for fun. Its my favorite of the 9 seedlings.

And here's an update on the two seedlings that weren't much when they were about one month old, but that I tried to grow together rather than throwing them out.

I repotted them recently. The stems never really stuck together, but the root systems have grown into each other so I keep them together. They seem to be growing at the same rate still and have different colours, so it might turn out an interesting plant after all.

Unfortunately the runt didn't want to stay with its siblings, so I've planted it separately now. However, the other two are conjoined twins, yeah!!!!!!

They are from Mr Ko's seeds, ko_ebay54.

Mine came from my seed pods this year. I planted a test batch to see how good they were.

Francesco, I have planted the little one separately. Considering this is the first set of conjoined twins/ triplets from one seed in well over 700 seeds sowed in the past 4,5 months, I wouldn't keep my hopes up too high when you start sowing for this particular purpose :-)

Yeah you are right. :-) But it would be a nice surprise. Well you, Jerry and all the others with conjoined plants have to keep us others updated how they do. I'm already looking forward how my twins are developing. One has a normal size but the other is so tiny with a special shape.

Twins appear to at least begin life very slowly. Their sister plants planted at the same time are 4-5 sets of real leaves now.

Mine is undergoing root training... Now potted and waiting for root growth... keeping fingers n toes crossed :)

An update on mine: planted 9/27 The line between them is starting to fade already. Still no growth up top

Tan, it is very interesting to see that the twin plants are separated by a layer of material. I would not have assumed that. It is like they both have their own, and then another encasing the pair.

The separation was not as obvious when its freshly cut.

How interesting, there's something showing there, but it's not very definite as you say Tan. How big is that seedling please, it's difficult to guage the scale?

Hi Gill, the twins in above photo was about 4.5 months old and its long diameter is 3cm.

Goes to show you what a benefit it is to live and grow adeniums in a warmer climate.... amazing!
