In my mild winter zone we can do fall planting and not worry about freezes. Your zone is quite different. I think it would be tempting failure to plant roses outside with winter ahead very shortly.

Good question, I was told we could (I'm in western pa) I'm a novice gardener so I don't know for sure.

First I was told it had to be so many weeks before anticipated frost (like 8 weeks which here was around first week of August)

But then I'm hearing fall is for planting and it's a great time for rose planting. I got most in the ground but still one to go. I hope it doesn't die!

I was told by a person at Lowes when I went up to buy 3 more which were at half price they would be ok as long as I covered them for the winter which I always do with any new plant, I cover them for 2 years, plus here in eastern PA we have had unusually warm temps for most of this week.
