Living room help!!

Just moved into this house with my 4 month old son. I want this house to feel cozy. I would love to hear some ideas on how to make this happen. I plan on changing out this rug and putting it under the kitchen table for now. I am thinking about putting a mantle below the tv.( white or brown?) I am also thinking about adding a sofa chair for more seating but don't know if that will take up to much room. I plan on ordering black end tables... I think with a floor lamp. I am so drained this mama needs help!!

Congratulations on your new home! I think your first idea to move the rug and get a new one is right. I would get a large enough rug (with a rug pad underneath) to cover most of the living room that is a soft texture for your son to lie on to play or crawl around on, that will all happen soon! I'm guessing you like warm colors like in your flowers and there are plenty of rugs with warm shades in a range of styles and price ranges, and warm colors will really help with making it cozy.

Are you putting a mantle directly above the fireplace tile surround? I would choose brown rather than white. The tv looks really high, does that work for you?

Maybe instead of a sofa chair look at an upholstered armless chair, it takes up less space both visually and practically. You do need more light in the room, if you get 2 side tables I would put a lamp on each, or get one table with the lamp, and an ottoman which can double as extra seating or with a tray on it will hold items.

For later: Some artwork above the couch and in the dining room would be nice, you could pick up what accent colors you choose. Some warm textured pillows or throws add coziness. If you could get new window treatments to replace the mini blinds.

Good luck and don't think it all has to be done at once, you can gradually do things as you get used to the space and find out how you are really going to use it.

    nice home!

One thing i am sure of, that tv is way too high! you will give yourself bad neck aches, which you really do not need.

that rug is too lightweight, it scares me, when i was little i was running on terrazo hit a rug like that and it and me went sliding across the slick floor. ended in stitches. Lovely as it is, i am not sure you want it under the table either, more work to clean spills up. end of a bed, on a wall, perhaps?

i believe the couch is brown and the walls are gray? you have not given an idea of your preferred colors? since your son is wearing blue and white, i will go with the blue.

Awesome ideas!! I do like warm colors I am don't like bold or loud colors so warm colors are definitely me. I was THINKING of putting a mantle that leads in to a set where those candle holders are. Thoughts? I painted the walls grey and the couch is brown. I love the idea of putting a soft rug for him to crawl around on. I found this end tables but would love yalls opinion... as a new mom I am on a bit of a budget but also willing to invest on some big items.

I do like the first rug.

Should I put lamps on just the end table or should I put one on the table by the entrance? I hate how I have all the pictures there but needed something in the mean time.

    Y'all are wonderful!

If you're on a tight budget buy what is most useful for you now, the side table you're looking at is fine, if you put a lamp on it you'll mostly see the lamp and the open space underneath can have a basket to hold toys and blankets. I think it's a good buy.

Marcy, I don't like those tables for toddlers. Too many corners. He's 4 months now, but it is less than a year before he starts walking!

To make the room cozy, a fuzzy rug, drapes and yes, the mantle. I also agree that you should have the TV moved down to about a foot above the mantle.

    Congratulations on your home!

@auntthelma thank you! Yes I will be moving down the tv and putting the mantle up. What are other alternatives for the end tables? I do want to make it safe for him.

@havingfun I love love that side table with storage! That is perfect! And the floor lamp that hangs is also something I have been wanting for the living room! Those I absolutely love.

@havingfun What about curtains this is what my window situation is. Would it look odd to add white curtains there?

please look them up, unlike most posters, i work hard to get things we can afford. often you will not find them locally. though i do get things from walmart and pier 1 etc.. when they are cool and fit the price range. please note that central ottoman, it has storage too.

i love white curtains, especially sheers which with the blinds it is all you really need.
