Regarding pillows, I would like to incorporate another color and different textures/patterns. I've actually been looking for the color of the green/yellow-green pillow in an inspiration room I saw on Houzz. I definitely agree that I need a secondary color for the room. I also want to find lamps - the ones you posted Denise are pretty. I like the first one best. I plan to change the lampshade of my floor lamp too. Regarding the buffet in the DR, should I add any lamps there too? Thanks for your art/wall recommendations. Never thought about a tapestry but checked out the site and they are having a great sale! I bought the "hot mess" one this morning although I think it may be too bright for the space. I could use it elsewhere if not. I kind of liked the 3rd one too but it was already sold out.

That citrus green is exactly what I thought of also. If you go to www.gilt.com and search for pillows, you will find that color. I have purchased several pillows from them and the quality is excellent. They also offer different sizes and fill (poly or feathers). If a pillow you like is not the right color, click on it and go to the bottom of the page which will usually show other colors. It's like going down a rabbit hole.

I fell in love with the tapestries for the colors. If it is too bright you can wash it with tea or varnish it with a light coat, to tone down the colors. I feel that the colors will look incredible in your room. For the price, it's amazing. I was tempted to buy one just because.

My first lamp direction was a colorful ceramic lamp in a simple design. After going back and forth from the lamp site to your pic of the room, I felt that you should use a large sculptural lamp on the console with personality. I realize my suggestions are outside of your comfort zone, but you have an artistic soul and your room should reflect it.

The lamp you have on the dining room buffet works well with the art. You may want to change the shade in the future.

The buffet can also accommodate two thin lamps on either side of the art, depending where you are keeping the buffet. If it is centered on the dining table and on that wall, use two lamps. If the buffet moves down towards the kitchen, the existing lamp works.

Thanks Denise. I appreciate it. This process is so helpful for me because it's pushing me to try things I like but wouldn't typically purchase. I love the pillows. The green lace was amazing. I thought about buying 2 of them and pairing with the rectangular neon lime ones. I was already a member of Gilt (forgot about that actually). I ended up getting 2 of the textured felt (your #3). So pretty. With that being said what are your thoughts on additional pillows I may need for the sofa. I'm attaching the photo of my sofa as it looks today. The new pillows are the same size as the existing grey ones so do I remove them and just have the citrus ones. Also do I need another pillow like the one below to go,with it (it's on etsy and you can order various dimensions).

I was looking at the abstract designs also, but felt they were too geometric for your room. Not that it would look wrong, it seems it would look better with a free form design, just to give it an edge.

Remove the center fluffy pillows as they are too fancy. Try the two grey together on the left with a new decorative one and put the two felt citron together on the right. I just play around until it looks right.

Love these recommendations! I feel like I'm almost there with the room. I will update with new photos soon but lighting is next on the list as well as finalizing an accent pillow to go with the citrus ones that I ordered. D_son that is a nice floor lamp. Tapestry hangers are available as rods with clips like the ones used on suspenders. Does the tapestry have a canvas backing? If it does, you can just slip a rod through like a curtain. *** Just found these simple clips, which I like very much, especially in black. I don't know the size of the tapestry, as you might need 3 - 4 clips so that it hangs properly. What I like about these small clips, as opposed to the rods, it that the tapestry will hang taut. The finish also comes in white and wood grain.

I probably would just get a 1-1/2" x 1/2" thick piece of wood the length of the tapestry, less 1" on either end, and staple it to the wood, rolling it over the top edge. Then attach wood to wall. I have a handyman who is a genius and always comes up with solutions for me.

I'm looking around for a simple rod and finial for you. Maybe call your local curtain store and ask them.

Happy 2017! I wanted to check in and provide an update on the room. See attached photos that show the new sheers, lamp, pillow and tapestry. The pillows I will likely return as they are more lime than citron. I may have to wait until Spring to find more variety. I still have the other accent pillow (print w/orange or other colors) to buy as well - I've been looking. Also I hung the tapestry quickly to show how it looks in the room. It's bold! I like it. It just has to be hung correctly. I still plan to purchase a new shade for the floor lamp. My new DR chairs will arrive over the next month or so - will keep you posted on that as well. Your room is really taking on a personality! The green pillows look nice on the sofa, however, I agree that the pillows are the wrong color for the room and you should return them.

Try the white flowers on the console on the little table between the chairs, as it fights the lamp design, or on the tray on the coffee table. For now, until you change the shade, move the floor lamp back into the left corner. The color of the shade will blend into the wall and will not be so noticeable. The ikat pillow doesn't work with everything else.

The pant hangers are a nice touch on the tapestry! lol . . . the tapestry needs to be stretched, weighted on the bottom, or framed and hung higher. (about 8" higher then the seat of the bench). It should be centered between the sofa and the chairs and the coffee table. Center the white bench under the tapestry. In other words, the coffee table and the bench and the tapestry should all line up.

As we discussed, the colors in the tapestry are a tad bright. If it were mine, I would varnish it to tone it down. Go to your local art supply store, like Pearl Paint, or Sam Flax, and ask them for the best solution. My guess is that a light coat will do the trick.

The curtains look very luxurious. Show less of the white sheers. Pull the teal curtains to where they look like they extend about 2" behind the chairs.

Tweeking the details are always challenging until it's all in the right place.

Agree w everything Denise said. The tapestry needs to be toned down w this room IMO. Then I'd get the same color pillows (but a lighter tone), but the new tone in the tapestry after it's toned down.

Not really understanding the tapestry in this space, but I think it could work if you toned it down.

Hi Jordan - We were going for some color until the right art is found. Something like this: OK it's not a Picasso tapestry, but when accessorized and toned down, it will work for now.

The funniest thing I ever did in a design project was in NYC, the client was "design handicapped" and the only accessory he had was the Eiffel Tower that played "I Love Paris" and one book "The Joy of Sex". I put the Eiffel Tower on his Steinway grand piano and the book on a vintage Pace Collection Orba wall system. Somehow, it all works, right?!

Luckily I was able to return the lime pillows from Gilt even though they were final sale! You can return them at Off Saks Fifth so that was perfect!

I moved the large mirror (new) to this wall until I figure out what to do with the tapestry. Also, I found some new pillows (accessorizing the sofa and chairs). I'm not sure if the two pillows on the bench will stay there but I've placed them there for now.

I found a painting as well. Will send a picture of it later tonight.

I love the room and how well it's coming together. It's nice but not too stuffy! I plan to use it unlike the living rooms when I was growing up. I just got home so I'll send a photo shortly.

Elle Elle, the art is fantastic! Love it. When you get a chance, stand at the console behind the sofa and take a pic. It looks too big between the windows right now. It would be a shame to hide part of it.

You can try switching the new art with the large mirror and see how that looks. This piece of art would look so dynamic behind that baby grand you are thinking to get.

Here are a couple more photos...

Lean the new art centered over the bench next to the mirror. Leave the mirror. If the rods are adjustable, can you make the curtain rods so they are not hanging so far past the window? The rod should be an 1" past the frame and then add the finial. This way it will give you more room between the windows. An areca palm tree (could be faux) on a low pedestal in front of the small mirror will add softness.

Thanks Denise. I will look at adjusting then curtains. I may have had my husband hang the post too far out but I will doublecheck. When you say lean the new artwork against the wall, do you mean hang it on the wall?

If you like it over the bench, definitely hang it properly. Saying to lean it to see what you think. You have a wonderful eye.

Thank you Denise. I am loving this process. When hanging wall art adjacent to a leaning mirror should the tops be level? So in this case, align the top frame of art with mirror?

Move the mirror about 24" left towards the sofa, and move the bench and art about 10" to 12" between the art and mirror.

Also try switching the mirror and the art to see how it looks. as the mirror will then reflect the window treatments, making the room look bigger. The sequence of the round coffee table to the bench to the art is magazine worthy!

Yes, line up the top of the mirror and the art. You don't want too many different heights going on. Keep this in mind if you hang more art on that wall.

Yes I agree. Leave at least 12" between the mirror and the art and move the mirror towards the sofa.
