I would say yes it is normal. It is probably caused by too dry of conditions. Sans Do like to dry out, but they don't like to be desert dry. The roots can desiccate if they are kept too dry for too long. I find with the faster draining mixes that plastic pots work better.

If the "yellowing continues to move down the leaf, you might consider looking at the roots to see what is going on down there at the bottom of the pot. But for now be observant and keep the plant from being either too wet or to dry.

How experienced are you with growing Sansevieria?

You can probably cut off the yellow/brown spot and the rest of the leaf will survive. When I have to do this I usually make a cut at an angle, or cut so the leaf still appears to be the same shape at the top, for aesthetics.

Pls. show a pic of the whole thing, the plant in the pot & its mix. I can't tell anything from just the leaf.

My 1st guess is the pot's too big, an 8" pot is a big pot. I grow a lot of Sans & rarely go bigger than 4" as my plants aren't big enough for it.

What kind of mix pls. that you consider it fast draining?

I ask 'cause a common problem is soil which is too water retentive combined w/ too large a pot (which will hold too much soil too wet for too long) & can cause problems w/ drainage & ultimately root rot.
