I planted some of the "Candystick" variety of delicata. Half of the plants yielded delicious little delicatas as expected. But the other half had very large fruits. They still looked similar to other delicatas, except that they were the size of a spaghetti squash and a bit duller in color. The skin was crazy tough--almost wooden. I cooked it up anyway and the flesh was awful, bland with a hint of bitterness, and stringy. I have heard somewhere that some Delicatas carry the genes of an inedible desert gourd--could this be what happened? These seeds were bought online from a reputable seed company, not saved from a crossed fruit.
