Are you positive about the cultivar name? Nothing comes up with a search under that designation, even on the Iseli website.

FWIW, there are a number of pseudosieboldianum/palmatum crosses on the market and generally they have been very well received. They allow the attributes of a Japanese maple in areas that may be too cold to grow one easily, the Korean maple offering much greater cold tolerance. These tend not to be very large trees, as both the parent species are relatively small in stature. I would expect something under 20' max. Most of these hybrids develop very appealing fall color.

It is the name I was given from the guy who included it in his order from Iseli. His brother is an Iseli rep. I couldn't find anything on the internet either. Apparently it still has limited availability and not being actively marketed.

Ice dragon is not on their site. May be too few to start marketing it yet?

On this note how do they make these palmatum - pseudosieboldianum hybrids? I will guess when the maples flower, they put some pollen from one to other then the seeds that form will be hybridized??

One of the really knowledgeable JM collectors in another group said Iseli is testing many new cultivars, and has sent them out to be tested in a few collector gardens around the US...including red and even weeping cold-hardy cultivars. It wouldn't surprise me if Ice Dragon is one of them, but not "out there" yet. Lucky you!

I want an Ice Dragon. Any feedback now on it? We’re zone 3-4 in Central Oregon.

My Ice Dragon continues to do well. It had very nice fall colors. A year ago (its first winter in the ground) it saw cold of -17 f for a couple of nights. This last summer was quite mild and I don't think we saw 100. So far this winter we haven't seen the teens I love it. It is ban beautiful tree. It is in full sun until mid to late afternoon and then shade. Last summer it had no browning of the leaf edges.

I saw several of these in person last spring, and they're vigorous plants. I would imagine they would need a lot of space and dedicated pruning efforts.

Love to try 'Ice Dragon' in my cold zone 4 Canada and hope one of the major nurseries decides to bring them in!
