The longer she is out the more peachy green she appears to be turning. She is very stinky, sort of like burning electrical wires or rubber!! If there are any bats in our house, I guess we'll know shortly!!☺☺

I suppose I won't be able to resist putting pollen of some sort on her when she's begging. I'm thinking maybe Santos??, something that gives more than 2 flowers but haven't made my mind up yet. I've seen pictures of a gorgeous calyptratum x papilio so I can always do one with some frozen pollen.....

I am curious though; are some more green than others,...this one appears to be turning more peach colored?

Well, I can't take any credit for this bloom. I recently bought this from Komoriya (maybe 2 months ago) and it was all primed due to their growing, not mine.

Now that it's in my hands, I will do my best to see that it survives. The usual; well aerated soil, not too much sun and not too much water. Unfortunately I believe it likes humidity and with the heat about to come on in the house I'll have to do my best to keep it happy. No useful advice from me on this one I'm afraid.

Here she is, looking quite peachy in color, she never really was green, not nearly as green as Evergreen....but I'm happy with her.

Mine has offsetted but not flowered in sphagnum in a hanging basket. - J

I've always wanted to try growing this one but the "fragrance" of the flower has me thinking otherwise. Maybe I should just get over it and try?

Yes, she is unique enough to overlook her odor. A conversation piece when you tell someone to take a sniff of that flower, the look on their face is worth it! And who knows, some people might like the smell of burnt rubber!!☺☺

I might add that the odor doesn't permeate the whole room, just when your nose gets within an inch of her. I think Telos sells them also....

Fred, I just looked at Telos' version and hers are definitely more green. If you order from Komoriya you might end up with one with a yellowish cast like mine. I think I remember Blanca received one of these more yellow ones from Komoriya too. I'm not complaining though I'm pleased.

I love it Donna , I have some , obtained from seeds and offered by a friend , but I have really difficulties with them and don't reach growing them to blooming size , they are very suceptible with rooting. So I enjoy your pictures :-)

Ooooh Donna that sounds wonderful...you lucky girl!!! If your seeds pan out I would love to try growing a couple of seeds of each, but only if you have enough or would be willing. Good luck on the "correct" calyptratum, I hope it arrives before the real cold weather sets in.

I really never worry about Komoriya's bulbs in the really cold weather, they must go directly to New York (?) and they're in my hot little hands within two days of their mailing. Always. Never had package opened or inspected....(yet)...☺☺

I got some coming in also. They should be here tomorrow. Yessss!

Yes I actually got me another calyptratum as I killed my other one. Haha! Some are others that I already have and wanted more of. And some newbies that I saw in their listings that were more "affordable".

Just an update on my calyptratum aprico's seedpods; they appear to have taken. They are growing extremely slowly though but are starting to form chambers so I am hopeful.

On another note late this summer I had an Evergreen bloom so I dabbed some Santos on two flowers. The few resulting seeds were strangely shaped but look viable. I soaked about half of them (about 7 or so) and several of them have germinated to the point where they have formed leaves and so far not a single one has a striped leaf!!! ;((

Good luck from me too, Donna! Speaking of striped leaves I have three striped seedlings now from your Eyecatcher x Santos seeds and two of them showed their stripes only on the second leave, the first is just green. So there is still hope...
