Ah ... I see the photo on Violet Voice's AV Talk has reeled you in as well.

    Violet Voice "AV TALK"

I googled it as well, and, aside from a plant popping up on ebay a while ago (now sold), there seems to be a Canadian distributor (Toronto Violets) who may have it.

They are currently setting up their online shop, but you might contact them to see if they are willing to sell you a plant.

    Toronto Violets

Here is what they say on their (under construction) website page ...

I will be selling African violets and leaf sets at the sale of the Toronto African violet society at Garden Hall, Toronto Botanical Garden, 777 Lawrence Ave. East, Toronto, ON, M3C 1P2 on Autumn sale - September 25/16.

Also, I will be selling at the sale of the Lakeshore African Violet Society of Toronto at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 61 West Deane Park Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario in Spring 2016 (will post the date).
Custom orders may be placed for pick up at the show.

    Please contact by e-mail: liliya381@gmail.com
if you prefer to buy at any other time.

I can ship orders within Canada and international. Please contact for shipping costs.

    Hi Rosie

Violet Voice is another African Violet enthusiast site.

It doesn't have quite as much traffic as Gardenweb - African Violets, but a fair amount ... and some great photos. Within "Violet Voice", "AV Talk" is the most active forum ...

It's a forum kinda like this one. I've used it and learned a lot when I was first starting out. Also, one of the correspondents there sent me some named variety leaves to help me start the hobby. I'll always be grateful for that.

The site doesn't have as much traffic as this one for some reason however. I check it daily but most of the time there's nothing new there.

I would say Violet Voice has more advanced growers and more serious endeavours than Gardenweb. Deb - the host - is awesome. She one of the Renaissance type people - can do anything.

There is another older group - Violet Brat Pack - some very dedicated to AVs people are there.

Then one day comes - and Leon has learned everything from everybody...

Then he comes back to Gardenweb and helps newbies ;-)).

Well, well, well, imagine my surprise when I decided to follow Leon's link to violet voice only to discover that I joined it a long time ago! I went there but it is unfamiliar territory so I will go back another day when I have time to figure how to navigate it! Thanks for the link Leon!!!!! And I believe that Leon will be helpful when he feels the need,,,,,I am sure!!!! Rosie

Hey Rosie, there's another forum I use from time to time :

    http://avbratpack2.proboards.com/

The reason I say I only use it occasionally is because, again, there's only a little participation there .

I wouldn't say that the Brats forum is less active than Violet Voice; actually, IME it is the reverse and I never find a daily trip to VV worth it - more like once a month to get caught up suffices. We've all seen stretches of nothing new right here on GW, too. But I must protest that on Brats there are young people participating as well, not just the very senior AV growers. Irina, you make is sound like a has-been place - doddering and ancient! LOL! Brats can be full of such great information from experienced growers and I have learned a lot from stopping in there regularly and reading anything new. To me, these three forums all have their individual uses and attractions.

And I keep hearing about the great groups on Facebook but have no first hand knowledge. If I could see them without having my own Facebook page, I would but I am stubborn about refusing to jump on that particular social media bandwagon. Does anyone here frequent those?

I also refuse to use those social media groups. They're ripe for hacking and loss of privacy.

As far as communication goes, email's fine.

I will probably just stick here. I know how to navigate this site and I like the people! Rosie

I am not saying that Brat Pack is all ancient. But 10-15 years ago - probably the novelty of communication and learning was so hot - that the place was humming. The same is VV. Now you can google anything - 10 years ago - the direct exchange of information was the way to go.

Regarding Facebook, Twitter and other places - it has its own place. You can see a lot of very interesting pics, but not a meaningful discussion - plant related - or OT.

Since you do not enter your SS number when you open your facebook account, it is not that you are going to get robbed... But there are ways the crooks can try to use your account to their benefit. Something simiar when somebody hijacks your email and starts sending emails to all your address book that you are overseas stranded and need money. No damage to you personally, just aggravation.

I am just amazed how many people do not post anything personal, but just copy paste a lot of things that they find curious from somebody's else post. Don't they have gray matter between they own ears?? Don't they know that if they have nothing to say - silence is gold. Why parroting all this irrelevant info... But - it is old age speaking...
