My "new" dining room

With a bit of tweaking, we changed our "library" back into a regular dining room because we really needed a room for the family (and friends) to eat in! I know many of you liked it before, as did I, but it just wasn't practical any more. This is what it looked like before.

What you can't see in the photo above are two huge bookcases on the left wall, which had to move to my office. In their place, I now have a sleek console table under a gallery of DH's nature photos.

I had ordered one chair to make sure I liked it, and the rest of them arrived this morning, so the room is pretty much done.

I don't usually buy all my furniture in one place, but the chairs, console table, and new plant stand are all from Crate and Barrel.

I have a total of 6 chairs, and the table has another leaf, so I can sit 6 (really more) if needed. On a daily basis, we are usually only 3 because one DS is in college and the other isn't here much.

The pillow was just tossed on the chair and not intended to stay there. The real life dog does stay. She wants to know why I moved her toys, which were on the rug. My dogs seem to think this is their play room.

Oh, and that is not a Special Vignette that I lovingly arranged on the console. I haven't really figured out what to do there yet. It's so shallow, only 8". I might do something seasonal there -- I have a collection of glass pumpkins that might look nice for fall.

I like the room very much also, and I appreciate that you have a room dedicated to dining that does not have the distractions of a kitchen or family room. For me, it is important to focus on dining and conversations with others in the dining room when having a meal. My own dining room is more open than I would like, but at least it is fairly separate from the kitchen, pretty much the way yours is. I really like your windows - how old is the house? I would guess that it is from the 1930s, which is one of my favorite periods for houses.

Thank you both. You're close, Lars. It was built in 1927.

Nice transition. I, too, like a dining room that's separate from the kitchen. I love your windows and moldings...gorgeous!

I liked it very much before and I still like it after just the same! The rugs in your house are my favorites I've seen on GW/Houzz.

Very nice! Your library was one of my favorites and I wasn't sure how I'd like it bang turned into a dining room, but I really like it. Very much.

I love it! My reaction is so well expressed by posters above that I'm struggling to add an original impression. But I've been following your project and want to thank you for sharing the result. It's perfect.

Nosoccer, I think it's BM Stonybrook. I'll double check and report back if it turns out I was wrong. I'm not generally into blues, but I love this color.

Really nice dining rooms. I love the table, so we know where everything came from except the table, and it came from where?
