We are thinking some sort of framing around front door, and the windows on the second floor need something. Maybe window boxes? We also don't mind the brick but it seems dated.

First, I would change the colors of your lower level to match upper siding. If you paint a darker body color you can change the look of your brick. One main problem I see is your front door and side areas. The side areas and door need to be same color. By being different, it makes door look smaller. Then, change exterior lighting fixtures and get larger carriage type fixtures. Look around your neighborhood and see if there is a look you like and try some samples. Your yard needs some improvements too. You might want to remove some bigger shrubs that are too overgrown to ever look good. They also distract from house. Start there and see where it takes you.

I would paint the side areas a darker neutral and then paint the door a vibrant color. Get a new wider front door.

Also, remove shutters from the double window. Reconsider the landscaping.

I would remove all shutters including ones beside door. I would paint garage doors to match siding around them so they blend in. if you can remove the grills in garage door windows. Update landscaping & paint front door navy blue
