Love the second pic! We're at the same stage in building and will do the tile to the ceiling at the sink , thanks for the question, you've solved one of the thousand decisions I have to make. :)

In the posted pics tiling the whole wall works because the tile is bound-in by cabinetry or an adjacent wall. In your kitchen the tile will just be out there on the left side near the patio door. I think the tile would need something to terminate to or align with.

The Kitchen Abode response is exactly what my response would be. There is not a natural end point on the left side of the kitchen (or right side of the patio door) and your tile would be "floating" and in my opinion, look odd at that point. Based on your drawings, I would use the tile as a standard backsplash only and raising the tiles to go the width of your range to the bottom of your hood, then back down for the remainder of the wall. I am guessing I would even determine the height of the backsplash to align with the bottom of your window for consistency. Not sure how high your window sits, but you might be able to ledge that window with the same material inside if space allows.

Our main concern about installing a feature wall was where the tile would stop, I floated the idea of going up and around the door to terminate at the cabinets on the wall perpendicular to the door but DH thought that would look weird too.

DH installed the window so that it will sit nearly flush with the countertop, and will have stone matching the counters for the sill. So the window will serve as the backsplash for the sink.
