Does not have to match!

They don't have to match and I personally prefer mixing painted and unpainted dining pieces.

I have an oiled reclaimed wood table and a painted hutch.

If you paint the table top, what are the chairs? Do the chairs compliment the maple hutch? What is the paint color of the room next to it as you'd want it to blend.

I prefer individual pieces, not seats, so I'd say, no, they don't need to match.
