Shower Bases

Does anyone have experience with premade shower bases? Do they drain well? When remodeling a bathroom, did you choose a tile floor or a shower base? I am going with a white base similar to these photos. Thanks!

We take a lot of the shower bases out. Over time they begin to grow mildew and mold around the bottom edges and it becomes impossible to get it out. Depending upon how it is made and how the wall material comes down to meet the base, water can seep through and the mold grows from the back side. You then can't stop it and can't get it clean. If you intend to use one, it should be something that has a tile flange on it that can be sealed so water doesn't go through.

I have one like the second image. The walls are tile and glass. Upside, no leaks, easy clean. Downside, no tile on the shower floor.

We did two of our bathrooms, and we used Tere-Stone shower base. We tiled our walls and ceiling, but most definitely used Tere-Stone. Excellent product. We have had no problem in draining issues. http://www.tere-stone.com/ Good luck!

We installed a basement shower and used the white style bottom. Works well, just make sure it is leveled properly so it drains well. We were low on one corner and you end up scooping water to clean base properly.

JenApril, tile floor. For our current remodel, Before was tub+shower+framed sliding glass doors + carpet!?!! After: got rid of the previous everything, new: just a big walk-in shower, frameless glass and swinging glass door, wall tiles (12"x24"), shower floor tiles (2"x2"), non-shower floor tiles (24"x24"), and a new dam for the shower.

Thanks. Do you love your new big shower? I appreciate the comments. I am also going with rectangular wall tiles 12 x 24! I'll ask contractor about mold concerns w/ a base vs. tile. We have tile now and its old and needs to go!

I have this, but I wish I hadn't used tile walls. I get lots of leaks around the edges. I should of just purchased the solid 3 walls that snap together a form a seal.
