I actually put coffee grinds on my sans growing outside. Partially because the squirrels didn't like it and partially for the acid. I have to say, I didn't notice a significant difference until I stated using osmocote.

Use Alfalfa meaning: the seeds, the sprouts or something else????

In an earlier post I told about using alfalfa. I purchased it in pill form (for people) at K-marts and later at Walmarts on sale for $4 a big bottle. Using only a few pills in their watering schedule so not to stink up the place. So far it made the plants tiny but heavily stacked (multi-leafed). The following year, lots of pups. I don't like adding nothing during the winter season.

Alfalfa has a natural growth hormone. Was told by a large nursery that he gets two years growth out of one year. He uses horse feed alfalfa and is out side growing hostas. Mixes with soil in spring and he uses it mostly once. I did this with hosta Blue Angle and had the biggest hosta around. Still do.
