I would do a black gel glaze on your cabinets it will completely change them!

Easiest and best change--remove floor tile and replace with new flooring. Make it quiet. This floor is totally distracting and doesn't compliment anything. With a different floor everything will improve. Also once you get other items on your counters they can decorate and give more personality to your kitchen. Try some cobalt blue accessories to tone down red in kitchen cabinets. Add flower arrangement to island with greens and more cobalt blue. Add blue or green candle to the grouping. Put cobalt blue placemats on counter and add stools with metal work in brushed steel. Those changes will not break the bank or your backs! lol

I would choose a new countertop that works with your floor and backsplash.
Most necessary- paint the cabinets. There is something aggressive about the oxblood color that does not feel welcoming. The good news though- you probably have quite a few options color wise depending on the counter tops you choose.

Window treatments for light control will also calm down the red in cabinetry. Painting cabinets is not for the faint of heart. Huge job and you have a lot of cabinetry. On an aside, what is going on with electrical cords from behind the range? Looks hazardous?

Wow, these are all great ideas and alot coincides with some ideas I was thinking of doing. To elaborate on my thread..... I am trying to get away with not changing the tile so would a solid medium grey quartz counter top work first and then I was thinking of using General finishes milk paint (Black) for the cabinets and leave the back splash and tile flooring? Also the island is not fastened down, does anyone think it would actually look better the other way (parallel to the fridge).

I would not do a gray countertop...I would do white counter to match white subway tile...you have a very busy floor tile so keeping everything else simple will really make it look cohesive.

Yes, I do think the island would work better parallel to the fridge. That would put more counter workspace in easy reach of the working triangle (sink-range-fridge). Right now, the triangle is at one end with two long counters stretching away from it. The new placement also offers more space by the window for a table and chairs.

That makes alot of sense but when you say a white counter top, do you mean like a solid white quartz and as white like the tile floor?

It's really a beautiful kitchen. Love the cabinets. I think the countertops are competing a bit with the floor - but it's an interesting mix. But you could change the countertop to more of a solid white or maybe a very light grey - in quartz, perhaps.

But, really, I think this kitchen has a lot of personality. I think I would just throw a glass vase with some red tropical ginger flowers on the island counter and enjoy it.

Yes a white quartz...would be gorgeous...but I would use a dark glaze to change the cabinets...chalk paint will take away from the new sophisticated feel of your kitchen....dark glaze would be much easier and totally change your cabinets to a espresso color.

All you need to change is the floor tile, to a neutral cream. That will also be one of your least expensive ways to change the space. Otherwise, you are changing a lot of other things to try to make it work, and you will still end up with that floor.

I wouldn't want espresso's darkness without color to lift it... but that's me. I like what you have - it doesn't seem aggressive, but assertive!!! haha. Probably with my concerns, I'd leave everything as it is.... place comfort rug, and curtains, and let the eating begin.

Basically the countertops are creating mud with the cherry cabinets the grey backsplash and the white floor. To many almost complimentary colors. First change is solid white or white quartz countertops, something with very minimal patterning. Change out the backsplash to something like a glass tile with some interest in it or something to get away from the grey which does not go with the red. You don t like the counters anyway so they are the first to go. I would stop there and have a look at the kitchen. Next would be to paint the island cabinets only, probably the suggestion to go to expresso is worth looking at, or maybe a lighter color than the red.

Well, Marc, you are hearing from the pros, but here's from another new house owner.

As someone noted, you did not specify a budget. Changing out that floor is going to be expensive; any tile tends to come up in chips, all the more so a marble.

Followed by the countertop, depending on what you replace it with.

Painting wood cabinets works out real fine in my experience (I did one set myself and hired it done twice). I'd use Kilz first, then gray or if you like dark, you might not need the Kilz. Paints may have changed since I prepped with TSP and painted the first set 28 years ago!

Anyway, based on your statements, if I were you, I would leave the floor, paint the cabinets, and change the counter to a gray quartz to match or harmonize with the subway tiles, which you like.

You could live with the granite until cashflow allowed, and perhaps decide you like it after all! As a geology major, it goes with the floor about as well as a granite can go with a marble!

I would leave the island oriented as it is now, so the people sitting at the counter can both converse with the cook AND look the other way at that wonderful view! But I guess that would depend on if people do sit to socialize or only to eat. A conversation or reading nook by the window is also a nice idea.

I think Home Interior staining idea is a great one. I don't normally like espresso cabinets, but in your space I think it would really tie everything together. Black would be too harsh against the white of the floor and backsplash. I actually think the countertops would look good with the espresso cabinets as well. I disagree about the white countertops though. I think you will have too much white a too high of contrast with the cabinets if you do that. You could add some under cabinet lighting to brighten it up with the dark cabinets.

Wow, I never realized this would be so hard, I really like most of suggestions so far but the pics of the black and white kitchens are amazing. My wife is really fighting me on counter top color, she wants solid grey quartz and I want white. We are definitely not changing the floor, it is not in the budget. I am willing to do counter top and cabinets I am just trying to figure out if there is one I can do first and maybe live with it for a bit before doing the other and if so, which one first (counter top or Cabinets) and what color would work with everything else. or is it just not possible?

The aweful counter top taken at different lighting angles and amazing difference that lighting makes on the same Cabinets, gosh I hate the red so much!

I would do your cabinets first it will make the biggest impact in your space! If will really tone everything down then you can make a better judgement on countertop colors..in my opinion your counter should be white if the cabinets are dark...gray will make it all look dull...contrast is very important when doing dark cabinets....

you could paint the cabinets gray and white quartz counters..that would be really beautiful to!

hey the counters may not look so bad after you change the cabinets...I have I think almost the same counter in my kitchen..I have Sherwin Williams Shoji white cabinets with that granite and light gray glass subway tile..island is a medium gray SW Dorian Gray....it really is beautiful....

I agree - start with the cabinets! Then you can get a better idea of counter options.

If you like the white countertops and your wife likes grey then I would considering doing grey cabinets with a white countertop. I think that feels quite sophisticated.

If your island can be moved it should be moved closer to the stove and fridge..you only need about 38" from edge end of counter to front of fridge...and you can have around 58" from island to back counters.....it will look better and leave more open space by the window for a small table...and will give you more of a triangle needed for a good function. Worth a try!

I think if you do decide to get new counter tops I would actually make the island a bit smaller..it seems a little oversized for your kitchen...
