Floor stain color

Hi all, I'm on the fence about the stain color for our floors. I've ways wanted gray or gray washed floors but now I'm not so sure after seeing samples. We have a lot of gray walls already so I'm afraid it'll look so gray inside. I still like a hint of gray if that makes sense. My style is more transitional. I've attached the picture of the colors we're deciding on. The other picture includes a portion of the kitchen do you can get an idea of the house colors. I really loved #3 but when I saw it in the house as a sample I'm very hesitant. Can I get your advice if at all what most people would pick? I know it's my decision at the end but just would like to see other viewpoints I might not have thought of. Thank you!

No, I mean the polyurethane, or whatever you are planning to use as the top coat on the floor.

I read this piece of advice somewhere: put one layer of your desired finish product on the samples before making the final decision. It changes the look of the stain completely.

Having said that, I like #1 and #4.

Funny, those are the two colors I'm leaning towards now after seeing it in the house.

Can I ask what you mean by putting the finished product on the samples? Do you mean like a furniture piece/fabric we have?

Your island is reading very blue which means #3 is not one I would like to see with that much blue. I would love to see #2 with a coat of polyurethane on it to see what the final colour will be (ALWAYS check samples with a coat of polyurethane over it...it is the final colour that you are choosing and only a stain with a coat of polyurethane will read 'true').

The backsplash tiles are running a bit on the muddy side - which is making this a little bit more difficult than normal. The #4 with a coat of finish should work well with the back splash. It would do "OK" with the island.

If you choose without a coat of poly, you will have NO IDEA if the finish s/he uses will turn ORANGE or yellow or if it will show any depth of the grain. Show us photos of the stains once a coat of finish has been applied. Raw stains are never to be considered "final colours".

Beautiful kitchen! Agree with previous advice have top coat put on before you decide. Cancorklfoors gave me that advice and it was spot on. That said I like your sample 1, like that it has a bit of depth to it.

Thank you everyone! As always I learn something from these boards. I will ask them to add a coat of polyurethane so I can see final color. Thanks again!

Hi there! We have the exact same kitchen colours. Is the first sample medium brown alone and do you think that colour would also match? We're thinking of choosing it.
