No its not to thick. But if you just planted in now, i would put it in a very humid environment at this time of year.

None of the hoyas need high humidity to root i dont think, but from personal experience it speeds up the process.

Although it's true that the very succulent species, like kerrii and obovata, can actually rot if given too much humidity. I usually root these outside of the humidity dome, in a shady spot. Sometimes, the leaves will become a bit wrinkly, but once they develop roots, they fatten right back up.
