Yes!!! I have video posted to FB to prove it :) This is all my fault, I accidentally left the water on in my yard for about, oh, 20 hours, yesterday and today. Fortunately it was on very, very low.

wozer, 1.3 inches for me. The BEST part of this rain is: hardly any moisture under the house this time. The diverter drain pipe I put on the two down spouts at the back of the house carried the water away just fine. There are still a couple of places where water seeps in, but I knew about that possibility.

I am glad it rained, and even more glad my foot isn't so bad anymore, and I could crawl all around under my house.

Love a good rain, when I need it. :)

Rain is such a wonderful thing. I'm glad that so many of you who have been on the short end of the rainfall all year got some last night! We got rain in the early hours this morning (0.71") and it is much appreciated, but the cooler temperatures are more important to me than the rain. I'm doing the happy dance for everyone who got rain!!!

Hazel, Soon your neighbors will realize you are a gardening/nature maniac and they'll accept it. It didn't take long for my neighbors to accept that rainfall, temperatures, butterflies, bees, birds and animals of all kinds and growing things simply consume me. Once all your neighbors have driven by and seen your working in the garden in your pajamas (I was only going to step into the garden for one minute, and then.....), they know exactly what kind of lunatic gardening neighbor they have next door. I'm okay with that. Once they've accepted you are an eccentric Earth Mother type person, you can do anything you want, no matter how odd, and they just shake their heads and say whatever they're thinking, followed by a phrase like "but she sure does raise a great garden".

Once, probably in 2007, we had a very long, gentle, heavy afternoon rainfall after months of drought. Possibly after several back-to-back years of drought. We went out into the rain, grabbed lawn chairs and sat on the covered patio for several hours and watched the rain fall. No phones, no tablets, no laptops---just us out there enjoying Mother Nature. We watched frogs appear out of nowhere to splash in puddles for the first time in months. We got to see a double rainbow. We got to hear the frogs croak and the birds sing. We watched birds bathe in a puddle in the driveway. We even enjoyed the high humidity in the air after months of feeling like our skin was so dry that it was on the verge of cracking all the time. It was glorious. Later that week, when speaking with several different neighbors, we learned all our neighbors had been sitting out on their porches and patios (we all live too far apart geographically to have been able to see each other) doing exactly what we were doing. One of our neighbors said something like "this is what we do for excitement around here, but it was exciting for us....and if that makes us redneck hicks, I don't care". We all laughed at how excited we all had been when the rain finally fell. I agreed with his sentiments wholeheartedly, and I understood then and there that all of us know what really matters in this world. Rainfall is life. Try living in the country and raising crops or animals of any kind, whether as a profession or as a hobby, without rain. Anyone who'd rather sit inside on a day like that and watch a movie just doesn't understand how good rain feels when it has been missing it for so long. I completely understand the desire to run in the rain, dance in the rain, to feel it falling on your head, to watch it water the ground, and to see how the plants rejoice and visibly perk up after that rainfall. Rainfall is life, and we need it.

Moni, I'm glad to hear your foot isn't so bad anymore, and that you got rain and also that the water drainage issue under the house may be resolved or close to being resolved.

I hope you'll be back on your bike soon because I know how important that is to you.

Yesterday I worked in the garden and was sweating and asking myself if it really is November. Our heat index hit 88, though our high temperature was only 84.

I spent two days harvesting everything I could get out of the garden in advance of the rainfall so I could spend the muddy days today and tomorrow in the kitchen processing the harvest. I'm hoping a day or two spent canning and dehydrating in the kitchen will feel better in November than it felt in July.

Yes, the rain was glorious!!! We don't really have mud but the ground is to wet to move cattle about five miles down the road. After the first hard shower last night, we got about two hours of a slow light rain. LOVE IT!!!

the Heavenly blue morning glories we're going crazy this morning and the moonflowers are all open. I hope this weekend that cut off Low pressure system gives us another good rain. The cool weather is a nice plus.

I hope so too. I'm counting on that cut-off low to do what they expect it to do for us in terms of rainfall.

We do have mud. Usually it dries up pretty quickly because we rarely get enough rain at one time lately to make a more long-lasting mud, but now that the high temperature is under 80 degrees, I think the little bit of mud we have now might last longer. I don't care if it does. I'll gladly mop up muddy dog paw prints off the laundry room and kitchen floors if it means we stay cool and comfortable.

I got right at about an inch. It was wonderful!!

Yay for rain!!! I heard it rolling in with thunder and lightening first just N of OKC and then came the downpour!!! They are predicting another round as well. I really hope we don't have the dry winter they are calling for.

We have waited day after day for rain that keeps missing us. Finally, this morning, some rain has found us. It has been raining for over two hours now and we are up to about 0.20". I know it isn't much to be excited about, but any rain is better than no rain.

It seems to have missed us last night. Still a chance today.

We're up to .60" now and have had some thunder, though no pouring rain like you'd expect with a thunderstorm. We just keep getting really slow, steady rain of the type that soaks in really well.

I didn't let the poultry out of the big coops because those two coops are very large and have plenty of space for the chickens to stay indoors all day. The chickens are not amused but since they are too stupid to stay out of cold rain, I wanted them indoors. I opened the door to the small chicken coop to let the chickens who live in it go out into their fenced, roofed chicken run but those chickens have chosen to stay inside their coop regardless. The turkey is out in his fenced run. It has a roof over it. He's not happy. He prefers to range around and be Lord and King of the Yard and does not handle confinement well. He is going to pout like crazy tomorrow in an effort to let me know that he doesn't like being left in his turkey run. The dogs are stir crazy from being cooped up, the cats are sleeping, and I am not going to spend the day canning after all.

I cancelled my plans to make Habanero Gold jelly today because the dishwasher apparently isn't working. It seems like it isn't getting water and I noticed this because it was making all sorts of awful noise. Tim may have done something to the water line that runs to the dishwasher yesterday (without meaning to) when he was working on the cabinet that encloses the dishwasher. I tried turning on each of the three shutoff valves under the sink but nothing made a difference to the dishwasher. I assume one valve is for the water lines that run to the sink, one for the dishwasher and one for the garbage disposal and only the line running to the sink appears to have water in it, so Tim will have to figure out what he did. I simply refuse to can habaneros without a working dishwasher because I don't want to wash dishes containing habanero residue by hand. If I was making plum jelly or something, it wouldn't bother me.

Since I can't can, I'd love to be out in the garden cleaning up. Naturally, it is raining so I can't do that. On any other day, it wouldn't be raining. I guess I'll either be lazy or clean house. Maybe I'll flip a coin to see which one wins.

We keep missing this round. We got a little heavy drizzle now and then. I'll tke anything at this point

I got 2 inches in a mostly slow gentle rain!!!! I spread White Dutch clover seeds in the lawn and the drainage ditch. Also more winter peas and a little hairy vetch for cover crops. I was delighted that it rained, but the dark, dreary day that led up to it was depressing. Reminded me we are moving into the short days of the year. I am bothered by Seasonal Afective Disorder. I hate the dark days of winter! But 2 inches!!! Wow!!!
