Good luck, pals. PS Canada has a newfound appreciation for this wall idea. PPS Italy survived Berlusconi.

Lol thx Robo tho I didn't used to think of Italy as a high bar! Unfortunately I think this event also bolsters nativism in other parts of the West.

First the Brexit, Nordic countries building walls and taking refugee's valuables such as jewelry to keep people out and now this. The world is run by hate. I wish it were only an American phenomenon but blame and hate are driving every countries votes and government it seems.

This discussion reminds me of the pundits who predicted a 10 point lead early and a concession by Trump by 10 PM. Inaccurate and foolishly predicted.

Kitty the sanders' platform also called for closing borders and incited hate by engaging the marginalized young male white voter. He too ran on hate not love....

Hillary Clinton also supported, voted several times to control the border with a fence. Be informed.

Mtnrd, I am currently on my phone and can't see where to change the settings. I will update the contact info later and then post here. Thank you!

Brushworks, this isn't hot topics :) I don't know exactly what Mtnrd does for a living but I am pretty sure she knows her stuff.

And in the climate of hate which exists today if she had bragged about it still today and not over a year ago she may have not lost by a landslide in the electoral college votes. That is my point. Sanders, Clinton, trump, Duterte in the Philippines, the conservative Nordic polititions, the pro Brexit all win or lose by how much hate they can generate. Trump generated more than Clinton so he won...

If you have any cash, buy something now, just be sure it has nothing to do with polling organizations. *wink

Im taking myself out of this discussion and sticking to my policy of staying away from these posts. Hence the delete.

Brush, you are obviously free to comment anywhere you like but the gloating, poking and whatever else you are doing is not flattering. That is why I suggested you hang out in hot topics. Dow is now down 854 points.

Well, you gotta admit, Brush is right about avoiding investments in polling organizations...

The chart that I'm looking at shows the DOW to be pretty much unchanged...flat...I don't know where you are getting that it's down 854 points d_gw?

The future losses of 800+ were slashed to less than 200 at opening this am and now the Dow is up a few points. The market hates uncertainty but calms quickly after shock wears off.

The swings are to be expected with the results of any election. The thing to watch will be the next meeting of the Federal Reserve bank in December.

The sell-off happened overnight in Australia and the Asian markets, London initially fell and then recovered, gold skyrocket overnight to $1330 but is back down to where it started at around $1280. The Dow is just picking and choosing and so there will be a slight rise. Nothing to see here.

Trump really can't do a lot of global economic damage in the short term. If he manages to drive the US economy into a recession through trade embargoes and duties that will be a different story. If it stays stable then all will be ok.

Delilah66, there was discussion in raising the rate in December.

Also speculation about Janet Yellen's status in the new administration.

The current Dow is more a reaction of bankers and investors to the happy Trump seen last night and the fact that he and Hillary talked about giving things a chance and uniting behind our country. And Republican policies have generally been favorable to investors. So for now, not such a big deal. It's the long term that could get really ugly, depending on which Trump shows up at the White House and what a Republican House and Senate take off with.

It looked like Trump had been dialing it back more recently from what I saw. Like his acceptance speech, acting more like a normal person and determined businessman than a reality tv star trying to fire up a smoldering nation. Face it, while everyone else was not paying attention to a large portion of the population, he was. Now he has won.

He masterfully pulled this thing off, playing the media every step of the way. He strategically conquered the battlefield. No one thought he could do it (except Michael Moore who predicted the entire thing to the last detail of those four key states that turned the election, busting through the blue wall). He's in, so I am hoping Trump turns out to be as unique a president as this election to be able to achieve the goals he has set for a more prosperous and secure future for us all. Entrepreneurs don't succeed by setting their sights low or believing they will fail.

I don't think he will be deporting those who arrived here illegally, hitting the nuclear button or attempting to obstruct equal rights for all. He couldn't get away with it even if those were somehow his goals for the presidency.

Great post Snook! And, I don't think people should be afraid. I could be wrong but I don't think of him as a real Republican or, at least not a far right one. He really likes to succeed and win.

I think that a Trump presidency is going to be great for the economy because he will lower the tax rate and make it easier to have a business in the U.S., less regulations, etc. President Elect Donald Trump gives hope to all of us that things can be better. Hopefully, the U.S. gov will get out of our way, and we can have a thriving economy again, with a growth rate of more than 1.5% annually.

When you lower the tax rate as much as he says he is going to, revenues go down which leaves less money in the coffers with which to pay for programs and so they will be cut. OR costs of other things will go up to pay for those programs and that you will pay for in some form.

You really need to think his promises through.

I'm hoping they work that all out (as much as it can be). There is also much room for improvements in efficiency in large enterprises. The waste is astounding.

Trump has an economics degree from Wharton (not shabby) and I expect he will be aligning a team of highly educated and successful business professionals with a wealth of experience to analyze and develop a business plan for the country. I don't know if that is typically the case or not but it seems lawyers have been running the business of the country for too long. A team of specialists is in order, IMO.

I think that's awfully hopeful, Snookums. His track record of bankruptcies, predatory business practices, evading taxes, treatment of subcontractors and employees, and so on, are par for the course for a private business person. How is he going to translate this to reviving our economy and placing "the forgotten" men and women at the forefront of his policies? There's a reason he hasn't released his tax returns.

I don't think Trump has any truly qualified business professionals at his disposal at which to call upon right now. So far, it looks like Guiliani and Christie are at the forefront. They are not what I would call highly experienced or the best, if Trump truly were the businessmen he claims to be.

Short memory for some. A few years ago Obama ordained the largest job exporter as "Job Czar". General Electric. Did any of you panic then?

    Goodbye Obama!

Entrepreneurs don't succeed by setting their sights low or believing they will fail.

This all day. This country needs to be run like a business. For the first time in a long time I have hope again.

I keep seeing "good bye Obama" posted by Trump supporters on my facebook page too. He was going regardless of this election's outcome and I hope y'all understood that when you voted for it seems like such a senseless thing to post now. the Clintons are much more central in ideology than President Obama, so much so they are considered too conservative by many.

President Elect Donald Trump gives hope to all of us that things can be better.

I think that is reaching a bit. He certainly gives some hope while he inspires caution in some to fear in others. He is no more a legitimate messiah to the right than Obama was to the left. It is phenomenal how very close this election was in the popular vote, absolutely amazing and it certainly shows that there is definite disagreement on what "things can be better" means to those two halves.

Personally, I voted for a 3rd party candidate (did not really matter in my state), but there is very little in the political system that has given me cause to hope, on either side. The talk of undoing all kinds of things concerns me greatly as there have been improvements that I have welcomed over the years and I am not confident that our elected representatives will be able to refrain from throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
