Personal preference for B. In my area the original authentic Craftsman homes have 3 over 1 or 5 over 1.

Actually, both are traditional arts and crafts style. The style in A is generally from earlier and I love them and are my vote. but either work and are lovely.

Like them both. If you forced me to choose, right now I'd go with B.

My uneducated eye says A, but only because of the ubiquity of B (I tire easily of seeing the same things over and over, just so you know my bias upfront). ;-)

Authenticity definitely matters. Should be the #1 consideration, in my opinion. In light of what StanleyRidge said -- giving him the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he's talkin' about, lol -- I like "older," as well as "unusual," so I would pick A.

(Can we get some more pro confirmation on that, please? Mr. Virgil? ARG? Mr. Mark? JDS? Worthy already weighed in, which definitely helps the case for B.)

I like B, Reason - while I really like that A is unique, it doesn't seem as balanced because some windows have 3 panes and some 2. I found that distracting.

Actually, the arts and crafts style of architecture is very wide and diverse, and includes English arts and crafts styles, American craftsman, bungalows, four-squares and prairie-style architecture. When it comes to window styles, there is a similar wide range of windows which were used, including 3/1, 6/1 and 9/1, in single and ganged windows under a common header, resting on a common sill.

In other words, both styles of windows which are shown are historically appropriate. Thus, it comes down to personal style and appeal. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I think the first elevation, A, is the most unusual and appealing personally.

I like A for the novelty (but still appropriate). I also worry that the B style will be overused in craftsman-y type houses that are poorly executed. ;-) and don't want guilt by association.

Time to bring practicality into the mix. Will the grills be authentic, or between-the-glass, or removable? Because A will be much easier to clean, especially the windows on either side of the range in the kitchen: all those corners! (Affirms the owner of 23 8-over-8 true divided glass windows. That's a lot of corners, inside and out.)

Either would work, since this isn't a strict historical reproduction. "A" reminds me more of a Midwestern Foursquare, which goes with the roof design. "B" is a little more farmhousey. Four over one makes me think of those tall, white, turn of the century farmhouses that always seem to be standing in a cornfield.

A -- agree with the uniqueness. Both are great!! "A" to me is less distracting and gives a more old fashioned feeling. So happy for your progress!!

They'll be simulated divided lights. Can't do authentic on a window that needs to be windproof.

I like them both. Can't make up my mind on it.

A is authentic, gives consistency across the various sizes of windows (the squares show up the differences more), lets in more light, is easier to clean. When it rains, there are fewer vertical surfaces to trap water.

I like A best (and is consistent w/tge window in the door, from what I can tell). IMO B looks too fussy.

I like Version A as it is more unique prairie style. It also complements the front door nicely and also go well with your open tail rafters better than version B IMO.

As I said, I do like them both. I think one reason I like B is because I've been staring at it for months now. A is taking a while to get used to but I love the "older" feel of it.

Right now I'm leaning towards A, but earlier in the day I was leaning towards B.

I still personally like B, but that is just a personal opinion. Sometimes, when I am stumped, I imagine my house already done, and I try to visualize the choice. I usually find that I have a definite preference, because I have a difficult time imagining it with more than one choice. Don't know if that exercise will help you, but you can give it a try!

I prefer B because it established a horizontal pattern in the upper sash that offsets and balances the verticality of the repeated narrow windows. A series of vertical mullions only adds more vertical elements.

I think the consensus is that either would be very nice from the outside. Now try visualizing sitting on the couch or walking through your living room and glancing out the window and see which one you prefer from that perspective because YOU will be viewing the windows from inside more frequently. Now, I might change my vote from B to A . . .

B. A reminds me of prison rails.

I love both. But A has a nice uniqueness to it (and does not remind me of prison rails, as those would extend all the way down.). It is good to learn both are authentic.

I like A better. I like the feel of it better. It just has a beautiful hark to an older style even though it is a new home.

The one thing that might change my mind is if you have square-shaped elements repeated inside the home. If so, B would have a nice flow and rhythm with the inside elements.

I prefer A. I think maybe it makes the windows appear more elongated? Less busy? A looks a smidge better to me for some reason, in any event.

You're an artist (although I'm not sure of your specialty)...what if you step away from your computer and sketch or paint an impression of your home. Hopefully that will bring out what feels best to you.
