Chickens in the orchard

This episode of Growing a Greener World is about Permaculture but part of it does talk a bit about chickens where fruit trees grow. The chickens help keep the tree pests under control, especially those that pupate in the soil. To shade the hen house a grape arbor is constructed over that and since thingys like Japanese Beetles, which like grape leaves, fall straight down if the arbor is shaken they also provide a food source for the chickens. The compost pile is also put in this area where the chickens can feed on any unwanted insects in the compost, mix it up some (and eat some of the additions), and add an N source. Sounds quite organic to me.
