The photo is not really clear enough to tell much, but kiusianum rhododendrons tend to be semi-deciduous. In colder climates they generally lose all of their leaves for winter. Many leaves in the photo are turning pink to red. This happens naturally before they are shed. Kiusianums are also, ime, very prone to lacebug infestation. Check the underside of the leaves. Lacebug nymphs deposit characteristic excrement that looks like dark brown shiny spots. Nothing to do about this for this year if you find the telltale evidence, but you may want to spray next year. Your county extension service can help with timing and recommended products.

Personally I garden organically. No spray ever - would never want to harm myself, wildlife and/or beneficial insects. If a plant isn't doing well in my yard, I get rid of it eventually if there is no sign of it ever becoming healthy. No plant is worth the dangers of pesticides. Just my thoughts.

Gardening organically, an admirable endeavor, does not mean one must avoid sprays altogether. There has never been a time when there has been more OMRI approved alternatives to giving up on a plant because pests can be an occasional problem. In the case of lacebugs, insecticidal soap, dormant oil, spinosad and many other products are available that provide good, safe control when used as directed.

You're right. I have actually found a strong spray of water and dish soap to be very effective in getting rid of white fly.
