My hate thread, please join in!

Hate is all over the Internet and the USA, so I might as well join in. I thought about the hate topics as I was brushing my teeth this morning.

I HATE when the toothbrush slides off my tooth at full throttle and rams into my gums.

What do you hate?

    3katz--- I know!!!

The last time I did it I was scheduled for afternoon as well and was tortured by it. I am going in a few weeks and the day before have a birthday party but thankfully the procedure is scheduled for the morning. The procedure is the pleasant part:) I feel your pain.

My neighbors one house down own the vacant old home next door and they decided to demolish it and took down every single tree as well. A huge magnolia and a bunch of trees that provided privacy for my elevated deck (my house is on pilings). I had a wall of green. Now when I'm on my deck I feel like I'm on a stage. No more lounging around in my pjs.

Aok, worse than a dead animal in a trap is a live animal in a trap. There was one under the sink once. I told DH I wasn't cooking dinner, I'd meet him at the restaurant near the train station for dinner, then he could dispatch the poor mouse when we got home but before I came in.

My grocery store will load your bags into the car for you. If I grocery shop, then walk next door to pick up my dry cleaning, I am likely to continue on to the car, drive home, open the trunk, and...no groceries. By that time they've realized what happened -- again -- and have put the frozen stuff in the freezer until I drive back. So I love that. Hate my distractedness.

Every one of those huge old trees removed massive amounts of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulphur dioxide from the air. A single large tree can provide enough daily oxygen for four people. I really dislike stupid people who cut down old trees. Seems to be a trend-our neighbor's did the same thing and now the woods behind us is going to be developed. I am almost without any lawn now because we keep planting trees to replace the ones neighbors destroy.

I really really dislike the word hate! It is a word that is used ad nauseam and sadly seems to be acceptable and applied to things that don't even deserve ANY feeling whatsoever.

I also really dislike all of the tree cutting that is the way of life now. Thanks for replacing some cyn427!! We also do this :)

I strongly dislike (^^stolenidentity has a good point) Xmas gift exchanges.

I strongly dislike people who park, or wait, in the No Parking zones* in front of the grocery store. And people who don't return their carts to the cart carousel. They offer assistance to those with physical difficulties so there's no excuse for leaving the cart out to roll into other cars.

*A few young mothers also park in the NPZ when they drop off their kid for daycare at my community center. I think that annoys me because they're teaching their kid that the rules don't apply to us, we're lazy &/or late so we can just park here.

I thought the Postal Service was self-funded? AOK took mine, I most hate when someone is in a huge hurry to pull out in front of me and then goes well below the speed limit.

I cut down some medium size pines in my backyard but you have to have seen them, they were scraggly and ugly as heck because the previous owners didn't understand the difference between a tree that needs a lot of sun and a tree that will thrive in shade. Nor do they understand that you shouldn't pile 3 feet of dirt on top of tree roots. I tried to get an arborist in to clean them up a little and he butchered them so eventually down they came. But I planted some nice shade friendly trees to replace.

My work has a Christmas exchange where you steal each other's gifts. Because of the price point I knew that I didn't want any of the wine gifts, so I picked a very safe looking shoebox that turned out to hide a very not to my taste sugary wine. just can't win! It was good for cooking.

Robo, you're in Canada, right? In the US our postal service is a quasi-governmental agency - they receive some funding from the Federal government. I think they get a lot of Federal gov't meddling in how they run things, too. :)

I hate that I had surgery on my big toe last March and am still recovering. Not strong dislike here--sheer hate! They said recovery could take up to a year--and of course at the time I didn't believe it.

I hate when there's only two cashiers and a long line and somebody decides to open a charge account to pay for the sh*t load of stuff they have

Eta. i hate when the sun blinds you when driving.

I hate that my neighbors will not turn off the floodlight that shines in my bedroom windows at night even though I asked them nicely if they would. I love that I replaced my back light with the brightest bulb I could find and leave it on all night to give them a taste of their own medicine. I hate that I am so petty (not really).

I hate that after 5 weeks of not having a working washing machine, dh finally replaced the defective part yesterday, only to find the machine leaking this morning. Now I have to wait for him to take it all apart again. On top of that, he took the day off today to finish up FAFSA/CSS paperwork due today for our dd's college applications. While standing in the kitchen shortly after discovering the leaky washer, I was talking to dh when I noticed my dishwasher was leaking all over my wood floor! I HATE malfunctioning appliances!

I hate that I now have to wait 7 days after taking one freaking Ibuprofen before I can do my colon cancer self-test(blecch). I was all prepared to start on Thursday and had planned to not have any citrus for 3 days before(1st day today) and then I got a headache this morning & popped an Ibuprofen. Damn!! Good thing I checked the website(after, of course) for tips otherwise I wouldn't have known about Ibuprofen

I should've taken Tylenol since Ibuprofen can cause a bleed and a false result.

Dedtired, I was going to complain about the same thing but since I haven't said anything to those neighbors yet, I can't. (But seriously, they are 3 or 4 houses away through trees, their floodlight should not cast shadows on my bedroom wall. Nor, for that matter, should the house across the street. I'm going to replace my own front lights with flush-mount ceiling lights, and the garage spot already points down.)

4kids, I hate the whole college app process. The only fun thing is imagining running a scam where you go on constant college visits for the free meals. DH absolutely would not do a FAFSA for DS#1, who fortunately ended up at an affordable school, but I'm convincing him to do it for DS#2 who is interested in pricier schools.

I hate that I color my gray and within two days you can see little white roots!!! Of course most my gray is all around my hairline.

I hate it when someone's cellphone rings in my chair yoga class. We were all in a relaxed state when someone's phone went off with a trumpet fanfare for the races. You know the one:

    Trumpet Fanfare

Lucy, that would really tic me off as well.

Neighbors complaining that my flood light is shining into their bedroom.

(I haven't had it on for a long time as a result, even though they have never done one thing for me. And I had to look at their blue tarps for years. And and and...)

Thank you for being a thoughtful neighbor, Embothrium. I hate when people have tarp covered junk in their yards.

I hate that the grocery store keeps resetting the aisles-- just about the time I think I know where everything is.

Holy Moly! This is a hateful place to be sure. Haters should get together and start fixing all these hateful things... The world would be so much nicer if hate wasn't so excessive in our life and folks pulled up their hateful britches and actually did something about stuff.

Don't get me wrong, the list is for sure stuff that sucks. Get over it or do something about it!

All righty then. I'm going to petition trumps new surgeon general, whoever that might be, to make dark chocolate a food group. Any one want to sign my petition?

Stolen I really do try to fix my forgetful brain, but the forgetful part just sometimes wins lol! And btw, did you see the Things We Love thread? Most of us posted there, too! Love conquers Hate :)

Somehow I don't see them getting me to eliminate - for the time being - part of my security lighting so they apparently don't have to take any steps themselves, like maybe closing blinds or curtains (I can't even see where on their house they are talking about, as there are multiple trees between them and me) as me being a "good neighbor". "Good" as in "Good boy!" or "Good dog!", maybe?

Like I said, total one way flow on their part - I hear from them when they want me to do something and the rest of the time there is nothing. He even stands out in their backyard and smokes, so that if I want to use the upper part of my property at the same time I have to breathe it. When they moved in they put plastic slats in our chain link fence, one of us went over and said something and the reply was "The realtor told us it was our fence". And that was it.

And so on. You know, like on one of those bad neighbor threads.

Sorry, I can't change gravity that makes the dust fall on my newly dusted furniture. :-)

Embothrium, interestingly my neighbors' light pass through the blinds on the bedroom window and the curtains on the front windows. Another window the light passes through is the semicircle on the front door, the only way to block it would be to tape cardboard over it. We could put curtains on the sidelights, but typically such curtains are sheer and the light would shine through.

I'd think security lighting is more effective pointing at one's own house and yard, down where people who shouldn't be there might be walking, not straight out. And the light that comes from the neighbors behind us is actually 3-4 houses behind, through woods. Of course, more shines through now than in summer, but even in summer it casts a shadow.

Yes, I read that. Obviously some kind of powerful glaring beam. Mine was just an ordinary floodlight, with half their place screened by trees - even during the day I cannot see all of the house. And I had it angled toward my shed, not pointing directly at them.

I also had a short row of black bamboo back by them but I took it out when they starting reaching over the fence and cutting it off, throwing the debris so generated down on my side ("It drops leaves on our bark!"). This planting was a good privacy (and floodlight?) screen for them, after I removed it one of them made a point of thanking me.

Their place looks like a motel, all bark and lawn with a few quite badly pruned trees and shrubs here and there. And when he's out there with his cigarettes it smells like one.

Because they're Scorched Earth Policy gardeners he also has this little low horsepower, screaming blower that he likes to run. When he's at it you can hear him all over the neighborhood.

    And so on.

I hate leaf blowers. When my neighbors use them, (often early on a weekend morning), I want to go out and hand them my rake and broom.

I also hate it when people leave their trash for others to pick up.

I hate grease stains on my clothing I can never get out of said clothing.

I hate it when you have some physical pain and everyone volunteers their Ibuprofen -- and you are allergic to ibuprofen.

    I hate leaf blowers

I hate when people used said leaf blowers to blow debris into the street and then just leave it there, instead of being a decent human being and picking it up. Seriously - do they think, "out of my yard, so not my problem" is legit?

    Cute owl, Ida!

I hate seeing dead mice. I can handle many unpleasant things, heck, I used to work ER. A live mouse is nothing, but a dead mouse for some unknown reason freaks me out. In a trap or just anywhere.

I hate Brussels Sprouts . . . disgusting little mini cabbages!

And anything pomegranate. And American cheese stuff.

I hate the smell of spearmint. You are not even allowed to drive with me if you're chewing spearmint gum! I will vomit and probably kill us both in an accident if you do.

I hate using a previously used (by me) washcloth on my face and having it smell sour from being damp too long. Ugh! That smell just will not wash off my face fast enough!

    I hate New Mexican centipedes!!!!!

I hate bigots of all kinds.

I hate that no matter when I dust my home, more dust sneaks in within an hour.

I hate PBJs. Haven't eaten one since I was 4 years old.

I hate those darn scented perfume cards in magazines. 99% of them smell horrible to me and give me an instant headache right between my eyes.

Speaking of perfumes, I absolutely hate it when women and men smell like they've just bathed in perfume or aftershave. Didn't anyone ever tell them that a tiny amount goes a long way?!?

I hate when I have to be somewhere and I can't find my keys or cell phone!

I hate when I'm on hold for a long time with Customer Service only to get disconnected. I double hate when it happens at closing time.

I hate, no, absolutely LOATHE, when I wake up in the morning...it's still dark out and DH is asleep...I turn the kitchen light on with the dimmer on low...open the cabinet to get the coffee, not seeing the heavy metal coffee scooper sitting on top of the can, and it comes crashing down on my eyebrow and the coffee can ends up in the sink! All before I have my first cup of coffee.

I made instant coffee instead and walked away.

I hate broccoli. I hate the sound of anyone flossing their teeth. I hate that I have a bunch of books on my kindle and no time to read. I hate smudgy glass and hate cleaning it even more. I hate that my mom and dad aren't here anymore. I hate that my son lives out of state. I hate a messy kitchen.

I hate Parkinson's and I hate that I do not have the patience I should have with my husband.

DiannaR, Parkinson's is very, very hard on family caregivers. I think you probably have more patience than you are giving credit for. Have patience with yourself, too. :-)

I hate how much i am enjoying this thread.

OT - Dianna - I hate Alzheimers and I hate that I do not have the patience I should have with my mother. (who is currently living with us but will soon be in a memory care facility).

I have friends who tell me how great I am with her and I tell them that they would be shocked to hear the voices in my head. ;)

Be gentle with yourself - that's what the Alzheimers society teaches us caregivers.
