We have cut out sections on both sides of the fireplace. Cabinets added and bookshelves. The cabinet top is stained dark walnut. What should we do with the mantle and beams next to the shelves? Box in and stain? The rough wood next to smooth looks weird. We also have same beams on ceiling...but scrubbed those to original wood not 70s railroad painted wood. Dont look at the mess!!
