Hi Houzzers!
We are not yet finished decorating our new home but we are considering the possibility of using the Dining room as an office / library to make the most of the space. It should be able to accommodate storage/ desktop computer / workstation but still elegant enough for when we have friends and family over. We are on a tight budget.

Attached are pictures (still settling in and sorting things, please forgive the mess).
I have several options in mind:

OPTION A.
BUY 2 white ikea liatorp bookcases beside buffet/ sideboard (one for storage and another for computer workstation). Attached a picture of the bookcase of my choice. These will fit exactly into the space on each of the two sides of the sideboard once I get rid of the boxwood topiary and wingchair and will leave no wasted space. My desktop computer will fit in one of these and I can install a pull out tray for the keyboard. When I am not working on my computer or entertainigg guests, I can neatly conceal the workstation and just close the bookcase doors.
My concern is that the white paint finish on the bookcase would clash with the mahogany finish of the sideboard and dining table. I can probably have a nice skirted tablecloth made for the sideboard (as in picture attached) to make it work but is this necessary? What are your thoughts on this option?

OPTION B.
I already have several of the Besta media storage units from IKEA which I can reconfigure to almost look like a built in wall unit and will give me a lot of shelving. (See picture of sample with 4 units) This is the most budget friendly option as I already have these storage units from our previous home. I can fill the whole wall where the buffet is at the moment with 5
of these floor to ceiling units but I will be left with 22 cm / 8.6inches on each side when the wall unit is centered. A computer workstation can fit in the left / rightmost cubby and can have pull out tray but it will not be completely concealed as we only have doors for the lower part of the wall units. Since they were designed for media storage, the shelves are deeper than a standard bookcase (good for storage but is this an issue design wise?). I am concerned a large wall unit might overwhelm the room, look less elegant and too ikea-ish (well it is ikea, lol). I can install the large mirror at the center/ some wall sconces on the sides / several decorative picture frames against the bookcase to make it look more elegant. What are your thoughts?

OPTION C.
Install office storage and computer nook in an entry closet I have by the living room. Use the dining room for its standard purpose (will be used rarely as our small family has most meals in the kitchen breakfast area) and just finish decorating it with picture frames accessories lighting etc. Should I leave it AS-IS or should I get rid of the topiary and wingback chairs to make the room less formal / rigid? In their place I plan to have art on the walls. What do you think of the beige velvet curtains? (still thinking if I should keep or return them) I love the material but I am not too crazy about the grommets and might consider DIY heading tape install as well as a greek key / grossgrain trim as accent. Trying to keep it neutral so we have a good foundation and won't get tired of it and hope to just have pops of color with art, decor, curtain trim, etc. Considering to change the ikea skirted dining chairs in the future as well into something that looks light.
