They are large but we could maybe get them to work try putting sofa against wall and the have the chairs facing each other perpidicular to the sofa. Can yo share more pictures of the room some can get a better feel for the space?

two couches facing each other will give you more seating spaces, with 'normal' chairs at the end.

Even the couch is useless 2 cushions only let 2 people sit comfortable as the 3rd would end up in the "crack". Lovely home

Yep, it's hard to hear, but all three pieces are the wrong size for your family and the wrong scale for the room. For 8 I would recommend a pair of 3 cushion sofas facing each other with squared arms instead of the space-hogging rolled ones.

BEFORE you buy one more thing, draw the room to scale, at 1/4 inch per foot. Put in the stairs, the openings to other space, the island.......all of it. Cut furniture pieces to same scale, and push them around on that paper, allowing a ninety inch pair of sofas, two chairs at about 33 inches wide and thirty six deep, cut a console at 72 x 20 deep. Now........sit down and try that with two sofas facing one another, and two chairs at the island end, angled toward the conversation.......allowing passage into the space. Leave 15- 18 inches each side of a cocktail table centered between the sofas. And I would ADD a tv above the console if that is where people gather. It IS a hearth in most homes) If the chairs crowd passage past the island.......throw the little cut outs away: ) and plan a couple upholstered cubes instead for perch seating.

Do either one of you weigh 500 lbs that would be the only reason for having chairs this big you can’t even sit there and put your arms on both arms take these back and get a couple of simple slipper chairs in a great fabric and some art on the wall would be nice . You need a table between the 2 chairs for drinks and a good lamp that console table serves no purpose and you need a coffee table The room is too small for 8 people all the time if this is just as a family gathering bring chairs from the DR when you need them

Your instincts are correct. They are too big for the space. Return them if you can. Nothing shrinks a room and a house faster than oversized furniture. Always been a pet peeve of mine from even a really young age. Who are these oversized people who are using these oversized furniture pieces. 90% of all chairs I sit in are too big for my body. I have two chairs I've owned for 25 years (from Pier One, no less) because I can't find ANYTHING right-sized for my body like the ones I already have.
