Art and a lamp for my living room

Here is my living room so far (I know the shelf décor is not right....a project for another day):

I was thinking of adding some art to the wall next to the end table:

Something like this:

Then I was thinking of adding one larger piece on the "non-lightswitch wall", behind the chair:

Like this:

Finally, I would like a floor lamp in the corner, near the light switch (behind the chair):

Thoughts? (thanks in advance!)

What a pretty bright room. I don't have any suggestions but would like to say I especially like your two chairs. Just what I'm looking for--did you buy them on line?

What a lovely, serene living room. Art is so personal, those are beautiful pieces that continue with your peaceful vibe. I personally would choose art with a little more color, to bring a pop and a little contrast to the all neutrals. But that is my style not yours, so take it with a grain of salt.

I like the floor lamp, but it looks to be more of a reading lamp, than general lighting. Are you looking for directed lighting or more overall lighting for the room?

Very pretty room. I agree with aimeekm about the floor lamp. Also, do you plan to use the area behind the chairs as a path to another room? If so the floor lamp might be better plugged into the other end of the room and used between the chairs. Unless of course you plan to hide the cord somehow to avoid a tripping hazard.

Love the art you have planned. I also prefer some color but you obviously have a serene vibe going on and it's perfect.

Your fireplace wall is lovely, as is the room overall. I agree with the above comments, and think the art selection will continue your calm theme.

Your room is very, very beautiful!!! I would add the lamps to the end tables. I agree that for me I would try for more colorful art.

annz398 - The brand is Van Gogh Designs, it is the Davie chair. I purchased it from a local furniture store. It is very comfy!

About the lamp - I would be using it just to enhance general lighting and to be pretty. :)

I haven't purchased any art yet....what colors would look good if I look for something a little more bold? The photos make the room look very green, but it isn't that harsh in person.

I do plan on getting lamps for the end tables but I have NO idea what I want for that yet.

    Thanks!

How about an arc lamp? I love the look and would provide general lighting.

As far as colors for your artwork choices. You have a beautiful blank canvas, you can bring in just about any color. I think blue would look beautiful with the tans and beiges you already have. And I like that blues play well together, so you can have from navy to turquoise and they'll harmonize well.

Here are some I found on my favorite site for art, Artfinder, that I thought have some of the same feel as the art you chose, but a bit bolder

I like the first art option aimeekm posted

Very pretty room. What is the paint color?

Beautiful room. If you owed a lot of books, I would put large bookcases up on either side of that doorway and a throw on the sofa and never leave the room....

Do you need to close shades for privacy? I'd be inclined to flip the location of the sofa and chairs so that I can easily get to any of the window treatments and close them in the evening. (If I did that I probably put a small table behind the sofa so as to discourage children from flipping over the back of the sofa.)

Wall color is a knock-off of Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.

At one point I was considering a mini gallery wall. I've never put one together so this might be way off base.

You've done a nice job on the gallery wall but I would place the grouping a few inches higher so that's it's not so close to the chair. Love your wall color, by the way. With all the cool colors I would encourage some warm color counterpoints, perhaps in the pillows, although I would not use a solid color. The bookcases flanking the fireplace cry out for books with different colored covers to give some life to the room. I would aim for mostly books, with only a few other ornaments to avoid a cluttered and aimless look. You're off to a great start to a beautiful room.

Yes! You've inspired me to move some books to the shelves. I'll post pictures when I make progress. Thanks!

I realize the gallery wall is not close to the chair, yet it would look better if it were all raised just a few inches higher so it’s not at the same level as the top of the wainscot on the adjacent wall. I love the colors and serenity of this lovely room. Would also love to see more books on the bookshelves.

Of all the art shown, I prefer the seascapes you chose. They are restful and appealing. I think you've done a wonderful decorating job and style.

I wouldn't raise the gallery wall (that promises to be a very nice one). It's a perfect relationship to the chair. Great scale. Seems very balanced to me.

Other art, I'd wait until I see something I really love. No need to find just something. Lots of art will work in this beautiful room. That's not enough reason to buy it.

That said it doesn't mean long waiting. It takes very little time to suddenly see something you really love:) To me at least, lol.

    Totally agree on books.

Very nice room. Frankly, it's hard to spoil it, whichever lamp you choose:) If the lamp is mostly there to enhance and be pretty-I'd go for pretty:) I like both lamps in this thread, but the choice is close to indefinite. The budget is usually a problem, unless you look for something interesting on sites that sell vintage. Maybe check OneKingsLane, they carry both vintage(the good price is not true in their case) and new, supposedly on sale..)) I just looked-there are some pretty ones. I loved several by Visual Comfort, and a couple others.

(yes, that's the most expensive one..or one of the most expensive there right now..but the lines are amazing)

    here's Visual Comfort, couple examples:

Beautiful home. You're in the best never ending stage right now-art, and lamps:) Enjoy it tremendously!

Beautiful room! I was curious.. do want to think about a pair of table lamps to place on your end tables? I also agree about adding some more colorful pillows.

Thanks so much for all of the input! I am really conflicted about doing the gallery wall vs finding a larger piece for that space. I love my little pictures (and they are already purchased...) but I wonder if it is too busy for the space. But then again, it brings in some color. And then I think about the floor lamp near that area, and I don't want it too cover up the art too much. Ack, decisions! :)

I would love any suggestions on lamps! (floor and end tables) Beautiful suggestions from aprilneverends, but I am hoping to spend less than that.

I completely understand you..that's why I have no new lights in my home..:) Everything is etsied, craigslisted, ebayed(is there a word like that? lol) etc. I will have a couple of new lights in our new home though. Out of all the shebang I needed for the whole house.

But as it's hard to have too much art-it's hard to have too many lights..:)

Table lamps are much easier to score though than the floor ones. Also easier to find new, and return if they don't work. Imagine all the hassle with a torchiere..

Anthropologie's having 30% off today..needless to say I wouldn't do two of the same, in this color.

this one though can be done in pair I think:

    check them out:

    https://www.anthropologie.com/lighting-table-lamps

they don't have many choices (which is a plus, in my eyes: lots of choices=major overwhelming), but nice that traditional, modern, whimsy, a bit rustic-everything is represented, to some degree

I moved some books to the shelves and removed some of the knick knacks. I don't think I love it yet. Still a work in progress.

This is such a pretty room!! I'm wondering what vibe your going for in the final layers? Do you want it to reflect your family- pictures & momentos of life or have it clean looking when you pass by? Does that make sense?? Lol

If your going for layers of life, I really like the gallery wall with colorful throw & pillows. If your going for clean & edited- I'd say no to gallery wall & remove framed pictures on mantle & shelves- anything small that adds to visual chatter.

I'd move more books onto the shelves. Besides them being beautiful and soulful and all-there's a prosaic reason as well: the shelves are too low to appreciate the photos/small accessories. I'd leave it with lots of books, and maybe a couple of bigger accessories/framed photos.

Then I'll decide where and how I want to display the other photos dear to my heart, so they don't get lost so to say. Maybe on the side tables, next to the future lamps? Maybe some other special place.

I wonder myself where I'd display photos if I get to it one day. To me it will be on the wall..but how? and which ones? and where? Not so simple.

I wouldn't give up on gallery wall, no no, it's promising to be wonderful.

As for layers of life..loved this expression)) Brought lots of associations to me

I plan on working on the shelves....doing some editing of the "things" and adding books for simplicity. Although, many of our books have very dark covers (maroon and navy), so I wonder if they are weighing the room down. I prefer a clean and uncluttered look.

I am waiting to hang the gallery wall (or purchase different art) for now....I feel like I want to finish the shelves and find some lamps first. Plus, I am working on the artwork for a couple other areas of the house so I might be able to use that elsewhere.

Layers of life - agree! Beautiful point of view.

I would love to see a tall live tree/houseplant in that corner by the window. Agree with others that you need bolder, brighter wall art. It can still be your own style, just more color. You have made a beautiful place.

I'm thinking your lamps should be a finish that is close to the metal in your coffee table. Not exactly the same perhaps but close. Keep them lighter if that's the vibe you're going for, maybe even open metalwork, since one will sit near the shelves and your tables are dark. Use a drum shade in ivory/off white.

I agree, you can work on the shelves a bit later. You could even stack a few of your small books on one of the end tables. If they are dark, doesn't matter.

the shelves are low-the book might weigh the room down if, say, you do put them only on the upper tall shelves, and leave the lowers empty or something. Also, metaphorically speaking-I'm kinda sure your books will elevate the room, not weigh it down ..that's what books usually do:)

But if you're very concerned about colors, you can always wrap them. Just not this white/parchment trendy thing when you can't know which book is which.

My Mom was actually into wrapping, and even refacing old worn books that lost their covers. she would try to keep the original illustrations where possible. So we had lots of books and some old ones had this "semi-handmade" look..I loved these:)

And wrapping is much, much easier than refacing. Like, even I can do it. Which says a lot lol.
