How to Prevent Vine Rot?

Hi, I live in Michigan. Last year's roma and better boy tomato crops all came with Vine Rot. For my roma tomatoes, which I planted from seed, I ran out of regular vegetable potting mix so I added flower potting mix. All the tomatoes that plant had horrible Vine Rot. Later at a nursery I purchased a mature better boy tomato plant and planted with a vegetable potting mix. Some had Vine Rot. How can I prevent it again this spring? Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm not familiar with the term Vine Rot.

I wonder if you're referring to Blossom End Rot (BER), in which the bottom of the tomato rots while still on the vine.

If so, it's caused by an uneven supply of water. See this:

If that's not what you're talking about, please describe what happened to your tomatoes

Thank you, sorry that IS what I'm referring to. I call it vine rot because the tomatoes are rotting on the vine, it didn't even occur to me to use proper terminology! Thanks for the link Jean! That will help for spring's tomato crop!
