That looks like a lemon to me. Tangelos have an extrusion on the stem section of the fruit. It may have been mislabeled or maybe is it possible the graft died on it and the root stock took over? I had that happen to a tree but I actually liked the root stock's fruit so I kept it.

What did the tag say it is? I also think it looks like a lemon, but it could be an unripe Tangelo. Depending on the variety, Tangelos are ripe anywhere from mid-November to February, so it may still need a couple months to ripen up.

The tag just says tangelo, not sure what kind of variety it is.The inside was very dry nothing like a lemon but more like an unripe orange. I think I'll wait untill February. Thank you!

Without knowing what specific variety of tangelo it is it's a little hard to narrow down the ripening window. Best to just wait and see what happens. Some tangelo varieties have a less pronounced nipple so I wouldn't give up just yet. Let us know how they turn out.

I think it is grapefruit. Thick skin and sour. We have a prolific grapefruit tree in Tucson.

They're quite small though. About the size of a lemon.

I hear that some of the citrus in the valley is grown on sour orange root stock maybe the graft died and you're left with a sour orange?

I guess I'll wait until February to find out. Too bad if I have to remove it. It is growing really well comparing to the other citrus trees I have.
